Lippincott Williams & Wilkins is seeking an Editor forNursing Research. Nursing Research is an essential publication for the global nursing community with a long and distinguished history.

The Editor provides the vision, energy, and leadership to produce a bimonthly Journal that provides groundbreaking research and communication about nursing research through print and electronic media to multiple nursing audiences.

Description

Selects and develops journal content, including original research articles, systematic reviews, methodologies, and editorials. Manages the manuscript acquisition and peer review process, and appoints and directs the activities of the editorial board and peer-review panel. Implements methods to continually improve the quality of the Journal.

Basic Responsibilities

  • Develop the editorial program forNursing Research; solicit original articles on key topics as necessary
  • Oversee the peer-review process; work with reviewers and authors to ensure each manuscript is reviewed and revised until ready for publication
  • Write editorials and solicit guest editorials
  • Appoint an editorial board, peer-review panel, including a statistical review panel; direct their activities including providing annual reviewer reports
  • Track manuscript; generate statistical reports periodically (e.g. submission levels, review time, acceptance rate, backlog)
  • Submit complete editorial materials, through Editorial Manager, to the Publisher according to established deadlines
  • Review page proofs for each issue and transmit corrections to the publishing office
  • Oversee the Nursing Research website, activities of a Web Editor to add content, and drive traffic to site
  • Conduct an annual Editorial Board meeting in conjunction with the Publisher at the annual American Academy of Nursing conference

Requirements

  • The Editor must have a broad range of research productivity and a record of successful publication
  • Experience in clinical measurement techniques using quantitative methods, and expertise in qualitative methods
  • Publishing experience as an author; extensive research reviewing and/or editorial board member is necessary
  • Computer literacy is required as is experience with the use of social media.
  • Visibility, a strong network of contacts nationally, as well as an appreciation of the growing importance of nursing audiences globally
  • The ideal Editor will be a highly organized, motivated individual with the skills and talent to develop a timely, exciting publication fostering excellence innursing research broadly defined
  • This is an independent-contractor position (with honorarium) and the Editor is expected to maintain a primary connection to the field through an active administrative, faculty, or research role.
