1977-1984Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC); Staff Nurse on Post Trauma Unit for returning Viet Nam veterans; developed discharge program to maintain stability in community; Co-leader of Post Trauma Support Group for wives of veterans.

1984-1986Catawba State Hospital; Nurse Manager on Acute Admissions Unit; developed staffing schedule for the unit; managed the patientprogress/level report for the treatment team; developed treatment and implemented plans for 8-10 patients.

1986-1994Catawba State Hospital; Coordinator Nursing Staff Development; American Red Cross BLS/ACLS Instructor; developed and implemented a nursing preceptor program for new hires; developed an Ethics Awareness class for nursing staff and measured outcomes over 2 years (Thesis at VCU/MCV); coordinated nursing continuing education in accordance with DBHDS of Virginia State licensure regulations; Coordinator of staff training for Joint Commission Accreditation.

1994-2000Blue Ridge Community Services; developed, implemented, & superviseda partial hospitalization program for youth and adolescentsstruggling with severe emotional disturbance (SED). As Coordinator of the day-treatment program, we expanded from a one-site, $90,000 budget to a 5-site $450,000 budget, providing treatment for high risk children in the schools and recreation centers.

2000-2004New River Community Services; Outpatient therapist for children and adolescents in Pulaski County and Radford City; Case managed clients/families in the community to prevent hospitalization or removal from the family by Department of Social Services; served as the CSB representative to the Radford City and Pulaski County Family Assessment and Planning Teams.

2002-presentAdult & Child-Family Counseling, Inc.; Owner and practitioner offering outpatient, psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, and children. With a fulltime office manager, and three other practitioners we have served over 2000 clients in a HIPPSA designated, underserved area.

1990-94 - Preceptor Program on Nursing Competence Catawba Hospital; developed program and outcomes.

1994-95 - Ethics Awareness for Nursing in gero-psych population; developed curriculum.

1995 - Assessment Tools for SED Children; assisted pilot study for the Child Adolescent Assessment of Functioning for the DBHDS; the instrument was accepted as a measure of functioning for Community Assessment & Planning Teams in Virginia. Work accomplished with interdisciplinary research team at DBHDS

1998-99 - Developed and implemented a 10-week curriculum for at- riskadolescents, referred from the Juvenile and

DomesticRelations District Court.

1999–2002 - NRV Child Advocacy Center Task Force; founding member of Task Force that developed the Child

Advocacy Center at Radford University for 4 surrounding counties.

1999-2000 – Treatment Choices for ADHD; guest lecturer for VA Tech and Child Network, Inc.

2002 –Sexual Harassment in the Workplace for Value Options Insurance; presenter.

2010 - SafeMinds- grant funded program (RU internal grant); developed a 13 month curricula for adolescents

with addictive patterns ($14,675).

2009-2013 - RU Mental Health Consortium – co-PI to develop RU Mental Health Consortium; grant funded through the

King Foundation ($60,000 over 5 years). We developed continuing education conferences titled Mental Health across the Lifespan; improving RU’s community liaisons and strengthening the position for additional RFPs with interdisciplinary partners.

2012-13 – Scholar Citizen Initiative Award to host 12 nurses from Taiwan (2 PhD instructors and 10BSN students) to study, compare, and contrast psychiatric nursing in the U.S. and Taiwan. From this initiative 2 presentations

have been made at international conferences.

2012-13 – RU Graduate Fellow; Doctor of Nursing Practice.
