Breakfast With Santa:December 13, 2015 is only five weeks away! Our Breakfast with Santa committee is hard at work. No doubt you have gotten several emails from Mark asking all of us to help with sponsors. Linda is also hard at work on the coloring book and the ads that support it. She has asked that we remember she needs lead time to make it happen. Remember the main reason most people and businesses do not give is nobody asked them. If we are to have another successful event we will all have to pull together! So lets get out there and get those sponsors and business card ads. Christine and Melinda are also working hard at getting the various committees up to full speed. In support of that effort Christine has circulated sign-up sheets for the Saturday afternoon setup and of course for Sunday morning. If you missed the meeting when the sign-up sheets were circulated please contact either Christine or Melinda to let them know about your availability. Again, if we are going to make this a successful event it will take the effort of all of us. Remember this is our major fundraiser of the year. How much we can do next year is directly dependent on how successful our fundraisers are!
The Rotary Foundation:Part of President Diana’s platform this year is to make us more knowledgeable about Rotary and The Rotary Foundation. Debi took up this challenge with her usual energy and enthusiasm. Each week she has brought one tidbit of information about The Rotary Foundation to us. it is actually brought to us by our greater who is asked to read the information. She has been doing it now for over four months and today Debi was presented with a Rotary “Above and Beyond” pin. Congratulations Debi for an ongoing job being done very well.
The Annual Programs Fund: It funds programs in more than 160 countries on seven continents. From digging This is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of the Rotary Foundation clean water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment in a day, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to ensure all contributions given to The Annual Programs Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.
Bedford Interact:President Diana has been working with our Interact kids for several years. Today she has informed us we now have not one, but two new Interact Advisors. Both are teachers in the high school and very enthusiastic about working with the interactors during this school year. Their first order of business will be to get the club registered with Rotary International.
Program:Our scheduled speaker could not make a presentation so Linda improvised
Margarita on Membership: Our club set a goal of two new members this year and counting inducted members and potential members in the pipeline we are already at five! We will soon have our first “corporate” membership. Margarita attributes the success to our aggressive use of social media, our becoming very visible in the community, and because we are stressing family values. Britton came up with a brilliant idea for the membership committee to pursue; to the often asked question “why Rotary”, we should add a photo of one of our projects and underline it by saying “This is Why!” Margarita ended her little talk by throwing out a challenge to the club of getting five more members in the club by the end of this Rotary year.
Bob on the structure of Rotary: Bob started off by asking the group what the Rotary Club of Bedford was a part of? The answer was, of course, we are part of Rotary District 7910.
- The next question was how many clubs are in District 7910? The answer is 52.
- He then asked the group what District 7910 was a part of? The answer is our district 7910 is a part of Zone 32.
- How many zones are in Rotary International worldwide? The answer is there are 34 zones in Rotary International. They are paired with a zone director for every two zones.
- Who is District our Zone 32 paired with and who is our current Director? The answer is our Zone 32 is paired with Zone 24 and our Zone director is Julia Phelps from Boston.
- What does Zone 24 and 32 look like geographically?
Raffles and Happy Dollars: Kevin won both the door prize and a chance at the 50/50 raffle.
Just a few bits of information: We gave Jim Harrill a standing ovation for completing 42 years of perfect attendance.
Another happy group! Jessica was happy for the birth of her goddaughter and to have finalized the menu for her upcoming wedding, Margarita was happy to be sitting next to people she likes, Andy made a substantial contribution (a bill with some guy named “Grant” on it) because he has been away so much (welcome back Andy – we missed you), Kevin – well lets just say he talked a lot and was shut off, Bob was happy to be sitting with Margarita, Patsy was happy to have a few hours away from caring for her daughter who is recovering from a severely broken leg, Britton was/will be happy to provide a “gong” bell to stop people from making impromptu speeches (Kevin is this for you?), Douglas was happy to have spoken with both of his daughters on the same day, Mark also made a healthy contribution (with some guy named Jackson) because he missed us, Debi was happy for all the work Mark is doing for us, and finally Linda was happy to have her daughter home for the entire weekend and watching her interact with her grandchildren.
The Four Way Test / Let’s Make Up!- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
