Lincoln-Way West Boy’s Water Polo Team Rules

1. Equipment: As a member of this team and school, you will respect and take care of all equipment. All balls, caps, and other equipment will not be used in an inappropriate manner and will not be taken by any players. Stealing equipment can result in removal from the team as well as further disciplinary action from the school.

2. Equipment: You are to supply your own towel, suit, goggles, and anything else needed for practice. You will have a team suit which is only to be worn for games.

3. Equipment: You will be provided with a lock and a locker on the first day of practice. You may not use your own lock.

4. Practices: All athletes MUST attend practice. If you miss a practice, you must have a note from a parent, teacher, or doctor explaining your absence. Unexcused absences from practices can result in suspension from game(s) which is to be determined by the coaches. (Mandatory practices are listed on the team calendar which the athletes received on the first day of practice.)

5. Practices: We will have practices and games on Saturdays, holidays, and during SPRING BREAK. You are expected to be at all of them. If you are committed to the team, then you will commit to being here. (Any parents that have already planned a spring break vacation need to talk with one of the coaches as soon as possible.)

6. Game Days: You must be in school on game days in order to participate in games. There are exceptions for doctor’s visits, college visits, and field trips. If you know that you are going to miss school for any reason on a game, please let the coaches know so we can check with the Athletic Office about it.

7. Away Game Attire: Every player is expected to have an orange team polo shirt that is to be worn for away games. When traveling to another school, I expect us to look like a team. Therefore, every athlete is required to wear their team polo with black pants on days that we have away games. (Please note: In past years, the team has voted to wear khaki pants to away games. That is fine as long as we are dressed as a team.)

8. Traveling to Games: When traveling to another school for a game, you must ride the bus to the game and from the game. (The only exceptions that will allowed is if the player has filled out a travel release form and had it approved prior to the day of the competition.)

9. Away Game Behavior: As a member of this team, you are representing both your team and your school. Be respectful of others and their property at all times, especially when visiting another team’s pool. Destruction of other schools property (i.e. locker rooms) or theft can result in removal from the team as well as further disciplinary action from the school.

10. Grades: You are student-athletes. Take note, the title student comes before athlete. You are expected to keep your grades up while participating in the sport. If your grades fall below the schools requirements, you will not be permitted to compete. If you are struggling academically, see your coach so we can arrange a way for you to get your grade to where they need to be.

11. Medical Conditions: LET YOUR COACH KNOW IN ADVANCE!!! Athletes that require inhalers or any other medical equipment should bring them out on deck during ALL practices and games. Do not leave them in your locker or bags. Coaches will need to be able to get them to you in case of an emergency.

12. A Quick Note to Parents: I am more than willing to discuss any team related concerns with the athletes. If there is an issue/concern regarding playing time or a situation with another member on the team, I ask that the athlete come speak to me before the parents get involved. These athletes are at a point in their lives where they are capable of resolving their own conflicts. I promise to everything I can to address any and all concerns. If a situation occurs where a meeting involving the athlete, the coaches and parents, know that the coaching staff will only address concerns relating to your son during this conference, we will not be discussing the other athlete(s) during this meeting.
