Lincoln PTA Business Meeting

Meeting Called to Order at 7:00p.m.

Principal’s Report

Mr. Mitchem reported that we are wrapping up first trimester and report cards go home next Friday. Lincoln held a Veteran’s Day breakfast, the kids sang God Bless America in the hallway with veterans, and completed thank you notes to be delivered to Hines VA Hospital next week. The school also took a roof top picture of entire student body.

The roller skating party was a big success. Grade levels 3-5 are getting access points for computer-based testing. Parent teacher conferences had a 96.6% attendance rate. Still working with 17 families to have a conference. On December 2, Dr. Schuler will give a presentation to review the district’s Vision 2018 which involves needed infrastructure improvements. One area of Lincoln to be improved is the LLC. Lincoln families will have opportunity to discuss these improvements at the meeting.

Teacher Updates

Thank you for dinners for PT conferences. Thank you for funding 1st grade field trip to COD. Thank you for the books from the book fair.

President’s Report

Kristen Kramer –regional president for PTA-oversees 71 PTA units. Looking for people to work for PTA at the state level.

Dine out nights are going great. Roller skating party was a lot of fun.

Thanks to Debbie Hinckley and crew for organizing the clothing sale. Amy Janowiak for organizing the Anderson Book Fair. Thanks to those who volunteered at the Halloween parties.

School calendar has not been approved yet.

WWS Craft show did not generate the funds anticipated.

Lots of corporations want to give grants to schools so please check your companies.

VP Membership Report

100% teacher participation and slightly over 100 family members. Need ideas for generating additional membership. Offer incentives for joining PTA, example free entry to Pancake Breakfast.

VP Committees Report

Art Encounter

Needs volunteers and Jackie Helm needs a shadow.

Chess Club

Over 80 kids registered. Nine kids requested scholarships.

Reflections

Let Your Imagination Fly is this year’s theme. 39 students with 53 entries. 19 entries advanced to council level. List will go out in the Newslinc. January 13 will be the awards ceremony for those that advanced.

Science Olympiad

February 4th is the date.

Anderson Book Fair

Book fair went very well. Based on the invoices, we owe Anderson slightly more than we did last year.

Box Tops

First classroom contest winner was Mrs. Lichtenberg with 2758 box tops collected! Mr. Ellison was in 2nd place, and Mrs. Braga 3rd place. Total collected 10,734 box tops for a check of $1073.40. With mini-submission, grand total of $1,120.30. Sam’s Club bonus is available. And there are specially marked packages with special codes to win additional box tops. Keep clipping box tops!

Earning for Learning

Karma will send out an email about shopping Amazon (enter Lincoln code and we get 5%). Office Depot/Office Max-send in ink cartridges or toner we send in $25 worth, we get discount on supplies from Office Depot/Max

Clothing Sale

Thanks to volunteers who were a huge help. There was a decent turnout despite poor weather.

Dine Out Nights

Chilis Dine Out night made $125.71. Total of $635.37 earned through dineouts. McDonalds Dine out Night Tuesday with flyer dine in or drive up. 20% of sales with flyer. In December is Chipotle Dine Out Night. With flyer, it’s dine in or take out at we will get 50% of sales.

Roller Skating

Thank you for attending. 205 students attended. Next one is April 7 from 6-8 p.m. Free admission.

Directory

Shona Hay reported that the directory went out last week. Some schools have moved to electronic directory. Some hard copies would be available if we went to electronic directory. Shona will investigate this option.

Mileage Club

There are 110 1st-5th grade students in Mileage Club. Students run on Tuesdays and Thursday. In last 2 months, 2240 monster laps 149 miles were ran! There are 7 volunteers helping with this club.

Landscaping

We can get rid of the bushes by the Lincoln sign. We purchased fall mums and landscaped.

Silent Auction

Shelley Keating had some new ideas for the auction. Raffles beforehand (even if you were not going to the event). Live and silent auction. Example-Bat Boy for a WWS baseball game.

VP Fundraising Report

For the Run for Funds, we have raised $20,305! Total laps 5825 which is 728 miles. Medals and Outshine bars for all students 350 in corporate sponsors. Chris Preede was the co-chair so kudos to her. Prizes were Target gift cards ($1500). Top fundraising class per grade enjoyed pizza parties. 10 students received YogliMogli gift cards. Top 2 fundraising students will get open gym and pizza party with Mr. Mitchem. Pie in the face incentive—Next week on Thursday, Mr. Mitchem will do the drawing and those selected will get to throw a pie in his face. There were $2474 in expenses resulting in a $17,831 total profit. PTA budgeted $15,500 so we brought in more than budgeted.

Recording Secretary’s Report

Minutes approved and will be posted on the Lincoln website under PTA.

Treasurer’s Report

October income $23,560.58 and cleared checks of $18,5627 and a remaining balance of $31,072.88.

Corresponding Secretary’s Report

We could possibly look at the cost of shifting the sign to face the other direction so you can see the sign when you drive down Dawes.

New Business

Family Reading Night

There is an author they would like to invite to Family Reading Night. PTA budget is $800 for Family Reading Night this year. Mr. Mitchem sent an email to Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Jethani about tying in the author to an assembly taking place later this year. Reading Committee will meet Tuesday and discuss possibilities for bringing in this author.

Nominating Committee

Must meet in person twice. Volunteers are needed for this committee.

Book Fair

PTA owes $669.69 to Anderson.

Announcement

TJ Frey reported that on Saturday, December 12 there is a holiday pops concert at WWS with a silent auction. Show starts at 7 p.m.
