The cooperating teachers who supervise our student teachers in their classrooms have current licenses and at least 3 years of teaching is preferred. If at least three years experience is not possible, we require a recommendation from the administration and/or building principal.
All of our student teaching university supervisors fill out an application for this position. They are required to submit resumes, transcripts, and letters of recommendations that show they meet the following criteria. They have to have at least a Master’s degree and a teaching license (current or expired). They need to have 3 positive letters of recommendations and over 10 years of teaching experience in either a public or private school setting. While it is not required, they may have had student teachers at some point in their teaching career. Many of our university supervisors are retired teachers or principals and supervise in the area of their expertise. For example, if they were a former High School English teacher, they will supervise some of our secondary English majors.
