Sciath na Scol Chorcaí
Indoor Camogie / Hurling 2014
A Chara,
The Indoor Camogie and Hurling Series caters for girls and boys in 3rd and 4th classes and gives many children their first opportunity to take part in Sciath na Scol action. The Series continues to grow and last year saw the largest entry yet with over 315 teams, or over 3000 children taking part. It is an easy competition to take part in as it generally only involves one afternoon of play and is not as dependent upon the weather as some of our other competitions.
It is intended to play off the competitions in venues across the county in January/early February, with the County Finals being held in March. The venues used in recent years have included Ballinacarriga, Cloughduv, Doneraile, Carrigtwohill, Blackrock, St. Anthony’s Ballinlough, Whitechurch, Little Island, Ovens, Watergrasshill, Bishopstown, St.Vincents, Youghal, Ballinora and Riverstick. The competitions will be organized in the same manner as last year.
Every child who participates in the Indoor Hurling/Camogie Series 2013 will receive a certificate to acknowledge their participation. Please find attached the Entry Form for the Sciath na Scol Chorcaí Indoor Hurling / Camogie Series 2014.
Format for 3rd Class Boys Hurling and 3rd Class Girls Camogie Blitzes:
All teams that enter the 3rd class competitions will be assigned groups based primarily on geographic location and they will not be graded, ie bigger schools and smaller schools may be playing in the same group. Every effort will be made to minimize travelling. Teams will be assigned groups and every team in the group will play each other in the various venues in the same way as last year, ie in ‘blitz’ competitions. Scores will be kept in these matches but there will not be any semi-finals or finals at the venues and there will not be any team qualifying for County Finals. The emphasis in the 3rd class competition should be on participation and enjoyment and a chance for the children to sample Sciath na Scol action for the first time. In the 3rd class competitions, schools can play children from younger classes if need be. Schools may enter more than one team in a given grade but should note that if more than one team is entered from a school, then these teams will be playing on the same day and in the same venue.
Format for 4th Class Girls Camogie and 4th Class Boys Hurling Competitions:
Schools will be graded according to size, geographic location and previous performances in the competition. They will be assigned groups and the winners of these groups will proceed to the County Finals. As always, every effort will be made to make the groups as fair as possible for everyone. Schools are welcome to enter more than one team but should note that if they do, then these teams will be playing on the same day, in the same venue and in the same grade. This necessary change is due to the huge volume of schools now entering, the timeframe involved and the limitations regarding some venues. Schools may play younger children if need be.
The closing date for receipt of entries shall be no later than Friday December 13th and due to the high volume of entries, late entries will not be accepted. The fixtures will be made during Christmas and emailed to schools early in January and games will commence in mid to late January. A cheque for the required amount must accompany entry forms. Schools should note that, with the unavailability of some halls after 5pm, some games may have to commence before a schools’ closing time. As I am constantly looking for suitable halls to host the games, I would welcome any contact details in relation to available halls.
Is mise le meas,
