Applications are invited for the full-time temporary post of Library Assistant I (IPS). This is a fixed term contract up to five years.

Job Objective: The successful candidate will have responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the library’s inter-library loan service andwork on the library’s busy Information Desk deliveringfront-line information support to the DCU community.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this post may change as services and strategic priorities develop. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Process and satisfy all online inter-library loan (ILL) requests received from DCU staff and students using the Library’s automated ILL module.
  • Process and satisfy all inter-library loan requests received from external libraries.
  • Identify external suppliers both nationally and internationally to satisfy requests inan efficient and timely manner and process all related claims and invoices.
  • Assist users with any queries relating to the ILL service and policies received in person, by email or phone.
  • Collect and record information on all ILL transactions, and produce statistical and fund reports as required.
  • Liaise with the library’s team of Subject Librarians in relation to requests, funds and queries as appropriate.
  • Continuously evaluate and amend workflow procedures as necessary in consultation with the Public Services Manager.
  • Assist library users at the Information Desk to identify and find information for coursework, assignments and research purposes and where necessarymake referrals to members of the Subject team.
  • Participate in evening and Saturday Issue Desk rotas as required.
  • Variation of these duties and any other relevant duties as assigned by the Sub-Librarian, IPS via Assistant Librarian, Public Services Manager and/or the Director of Library Services.

Experience and Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 Grade Ds at Leaving Certificate level or equivalent.Relevant experience in a library environment is desirable.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent customer service skills as well as strong organisational,administrative and IT skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to function as part of a highly motivated team are essential.

Salary Scale: €22,924.00 to € 34,717.00*
Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
