Dear Sir or Madam:

The HB Woodlawn Secondary Program Music Department will be holding a silent auction fundraising event in November of this year and I am writing to request your assistance.

HB Woodlawn is an Arlington County public school that serves children in grades 6 through 12. The music program at HBW has a long history of excellence in vocal and instrumental instruction. Students have had the opportunity to perform major works from a variety of cultures and time periods, collaborate with living composers and artist, receive the highest marks in adjudications and have performed around the country and in Europe. The music program is open to all students and in fact, over 70% of the student body participates in some aspect of the music program!

Although we are a public school, and all students can take classes free of charge, the funding that comes from the school covers the cost of music instruction alone. Families are responsible for the cost of instrument rentals, concert attire, stipends for coaches, and the annual music trip, among many other things. To insure that all students have equal access to these opportunities, we offer scholarships to those who are unable to meet these costs.

We are in the process of collecting donations for the event, and I’m writing to request your assistance in making the HB Woodlawn Silent Auction a success. By donating an item, you’ll be making a tax deductible contribution that will help HB Woodlawn Music continue to offer opportunities to all of our students. Additionally, you’ll benefit from exposure of your company’s name to those who attend the event. Donors will be listed on the event program, and the merchandise you give will be on display throughout the event. As a donor, you’ll be invited to attend the event, so you’ll be able to meet prospective customers and even possibly find a few bargains of your own.

Won’t you consider donating an item to support the continued work of the HB Woodlawn Music Department?

With appreciation,

Geraldine Maskelony
