Level 1 Coaching Course in Limerick
Rowing Ireland are running a Level 1 Coaching Course in Limerick, starting on Thursday evening 3rd March2016 and continuing on other dates listed below. The course is open to all clubs.
The Level 1 course is aimed at coaches with some experience in the sport and wishing to improve their coaching skills. Coaches will learn about planning and delivery of a training session on land and water. A specific module on strength training is included. The course covers practical skills such as how to teach good technique, how to rig a boat, introduction to periodisation, designing a training programme and delivering a good training session. Coaches will be helped to further develop their picture of what to look for in good technique. Other coaching skills covered include communication, goal setting, mental and tactical preparation and advice on nutrition-hydration. Coaches will get plenty of opportunity to practice and learn from hands on activities.
Coaches must attend all sessions and complete all course work to qualify for L1 certification.There will be ongoing assessment through the course activities, practical sessions and tasks as well as a written assessment covering topics covered in the course. There will be a follow up assessment of coaching practice as well as a review of logged coaching hours/sessions.
The course is certified by Coaching Ireland (formerly NCTC) and Rowing Ireland.

*The Irish Sports Council child protection basic awareness module which is compulsory for all L1 coaches will be delivered on the Thu 10th Mar session. Other club officials/coaches may attend this session. There is a €10 fee. Please contact undersigned if you wish to sign up for this module only. *
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be 18 yrs of age. They must have completed the Introductory course and gained a seasons experience as an assistant coach OR have two seasons coaching/rowing experience gained within the last ten years.
You will be required to apply for Garda/PSNI vetting as part of the L1 process.
