Learning Outcomes
By completing this task students will be able to:
- Examine and assess their values with regard to work.
- Link the values they have identified to jobs.
- Understand that different people value different things.
Preparation and Materials
- Copies of the Info Sheet “The Job For Me” for each student.
- Students’ previous relevant work and Action Plans.
Method
- Explain the aim of the lesson using the learning outcomes on the Info Sheet.
- Outline the exercise i.e. the students will examine their values in relation to work and then choose 3 jobs which match their values. Explain that different people place different values on the same job.
- Give out the Info and Activity Sheets.
- Ask the students to complete the Activity Sheet by indicating which values are important to them in relation to work.
- Students then choose their top 3 values and write down 3 jobs which they feel match these values.
- ask the students to compare their responses with a partner.
- Ask the students for voluntary feedback and, as a class, compare values and jobs. What similarities/differences are there?
- Ask the students what they have learned from the lesson.
- Summarise the main learning outcomes.
Extension Activity
- Students could review and update their Action Plans using this information.
