Dear Adam Beck Parents/Guardians:
I would like to thank you for all for a great first week and start to our school year. Starting Monday we will be having the Kindergarten classes from Rooms 7, 8 & 9 meet in the existing Kindergarten yard and the Kindergarten students from Rooms 7 23 & 24, our new classes meet in the new Kindergarten yard(adjacent to the Primary-Junior school yard).
We will also have parts of our field closed because we will have new sod laid and the growth period will probably take us into Spring before we can use it. The result will be a healthy field of grass which will be a nice change from the current weeds we have growing in that area.
I thank all parents and community members for their patience during construction and as we finish a few last minute items. Our new space looks fantastic and the students are really enjoying their classrooms.

Respect yourself and others!!
Sign & Return Packages / It is extremely important that we receive all of the packages that were sent home for families to sign and complete so that we can enter the most up-t-date information in our files. The forms were due today; if you have not already done so, please send these forms back to your child’s teacher as soon as possible!
Parent Handbook Calendars / By now we hope you have all received your Parent Handbook Calendars. We apologize for the error we noticed in regards to “Rosh Hashanah” which appears on September 5th and 6th in our calendar rather than the correct dates on September 25th and 26th.
Medical Information / Please ensure your child’s teacher and the office has any pertinent medical information about your child so that we can make sure all strategies for their health and safety are put in place immediately!
We remind all parents that we have several students with nut allergies and snacks and lunches containing nut products are not permitted. We also do not permit food items to be sent to school for birthdays and special occasions. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have questions about this.
Scooters / Thanks to the clever thinking of our School Council and all parents’ generosity in fundraising we are proud to be one of the only schools in the neighbourhood with scooter racks in our school yard. If your child is using a scooter to get to school they must lock it outside at the scooter rack. These racks are located in front of the parking lot in our school yard.
Communication & Important Dates / All school communication will be posted on our website. Please check the website on a regular basis for all communication.
QSP Fundraiser / On Wednesday September 10th we will be having our QSP Magazine Assembly for students to kick off the start for this fundraiser. This is an important fundraiser that raises money to support a reduction in price of the Grade 6 Graduation Trip to Ottawa as well as money to purchase technology for all of our classes.
Please support our 2014 Magazine Fundraiser Campaign by either buying new magazine subscriptions or renewing old subscriptions. Magazine subscriptions make GREAT gifts and students and teachers will also welcome any magazine subscriptions donated to your child's classroom or to the library. Simply speak to your child about their favorite magazine and confirm with their class teacher and order the subscription to their teacher's name to be delivered to:

Lice Check / Our first School Wide Lice Check will be Monday September 22nd. There is more information about Lice on our website. Please remember that if we determine your child has lice we will need you to pick your child up immediately and begin treatment. Once treatment is complete you must bring your child into the office for a check before they can be readmitted to class.
Cross Country / Staff will be sending out information regarding Cross Country very soon. Please look out for this in your child’s backpack next week.
Open House & BBQ / We look forward to seeing all our families on Thursday September 18th between 5pm-7pm for our annual Open House & BBQ.

Important Dates to remember:
- Nominations will be accepted until Monday September 8th
- Candidates will be announced by Friday September 12th
- Voting will take place between Monday September 15th to Friday September 19th
- Results will be confirmed on Thursday September 25th at our 1st School Council Meeting
- Results will be announced on Friday September 26th to all parents
Toys / We remind all parents that toys and card collections are not permitted at school as they create distractions, heart break when lost or misplaced and conflict amongst students. Please remind your child to keep these items safely stored at home.
Volunteers / Please remember that if you wish to volunteer at Adam Beck in the 2014-2015 school year, you must have a Police Clearance Check completed. Please complete the attached form on legal paper and send it to the office with your certified cheque or money order for $15.00 payable to Toronto Police Services.
Hot Weather / Please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle, hat and sunscreen as we experience these hot and sunny days in September! We will enjoy these last few days of warmer weather as we work our way towards cooler temps and Fall!
