PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS/ GUIDELINES

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:

-ATTENDANCE POLICY:

  1. Missed Practice = “ NO PLAY”
  2. Excused Absence = Sickness ( Noted as Excused by the school)- need a phone call from a parent, Family Emergency ( Mandatory Phone Call from parent)- emergency related to family injury, sickness, funeral, etc.
  3. Unexcused Absence = Work/ Job Interview, Babysitting, Moving to a new place, simply not attending practice

-PRACTICE STANDARDS:

  1. Players should put forth their best effort every day and be the best teammate possible
  2. Reasons for possible removal from practice:
  • Disrespect towards a coach: Profanity towards; Refusing to follow instructions; raising a voice/ waving off a coach; walking off the court
  • Lack of effort in practice: Not running and playing as hard as possible; Need to meet expectations set by the coaching staff
  • The use of profanity in practice: Profanity towards another player; profanity use in practice ( continued use after being corrected)
  1. CONSEQUENCES FOR REMOVAL FROM PRACTICE
  • 1st Offense= Extra Conditioning
  • 2nd Offense = Partial Game Suspension
  • 3rd Offense = 1 Game Suspension
  • 4th Offense = Indefinite Suspension

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:

-GRADES:

  1. Must Maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 ( C Average)
  • Consequences = Extra Conditioning and possible partial or full game suspension ( chronic academic issues): Reinstated once teachers have reported significant improvement
  1. Any FAILING GRADE on report card or grade check ( performed by the coaches)
  • During Season = extra conditioning / possible game suspension
  • During Pre/ Post Season = extra conditioning
  • Placed on “ Academic Watch” ( weekly grade checks)
  1. Any “D” in a class on a report card or grade sheet
  • Extra Conditioning
  • Possible Suspension depending on the number of D’s on the report

CONDUCT:

  1. Classroom / School misconduct will result in extra conditioning.
  2. Suspension/ Expulsion will result in an indefinite suspension from the team ( school/ district policy in effect)
  3. Community misconduct will result in consequences ranging from extra conditioning to indefinite suspension from the team depending on the severity of the infraction ( school/ district policy in effect)

PRACTICE DRESS:

  1. Practice Jersey, gym shorts, and proper shoes. Failure to do so will result in extra conditioning or removal from practice.

GAMEDAY DRESS/EXPECTATIONS:

  1. AWAY/ HOME GAMES: Lebanon Long Sleeve Team Shirt ( provided), khaki pants, any other Lebanon basketball wear ( sweatshirt/ jacket)
  2. Student/ Athletes are representing their family, Lebanon High School, and the Basketball program they will live up and beyond to the standards of the district and the Lebanon community.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

  1. Be early to all functions. On Time = 10 minutes early
  2. Get to school on time and take advantage of all the resources at Lebanon High School
  3. Be a positive person and not a complainer. If there are problems, see the coach. Have a great TEAM attitude.
  4. Support all other levels. WE ARE ALL LEBANON BASKETBALL
  5. Respect all staff members
  6. Dress appropriately for all team functions. If questions about attire, ask a coach
  • No strange haircuts/ beards ( during the season)
  • No strange jewelry
  1. Keep the locker room clean at all times. Keep personal possessions locked up
  2. Use appropriate language when representing Lebanon
  3. Team always sit together in the stands without headphones
  4. Develop a champion’s mindset:
  • Team Attitude ( eagerly play your role)
  • Work Ethic ( Be willing to conquer what you hate, so you can create something you love)
  • Emotional Strength ( Mental Toughness > Physical Toughness)

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

  1. Understand the Process
  2. Be Positive: Towards players, coaches, and referees
  3. Encourage TEAM attitude and effort above playing time and points scored
  4. Support the coaches
  5. Resist shouting directions from the stands
  6. Encourage your player to talk to the coach and handle problems. Players determine playing time in practice.
  7. Communicate with the coaching staff, except playing time
  8. Wait 24 hours after a contest or practice to call the coach
  9. Understand we expect commitment. We work 10 months a year
  10. Enjoy Lebanon Basketball

COACHING EXPECTATIONS

  1. Be loyal to the staff, the program, and the school. Keep our problems in –house. Be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
  2. Be early to all events. No one should have to wait on you. Call ahead if there is an issue.
  3. Communicate any problems ( academic or attitude) on or off the court with parents. Communicate the problems to me , when necessary.
  4. Be hard on players, but be positive. Teach them the value of hard work and commitment. Learn behavior and personality of each kid. You will not treat everyone the same.
  5. Be an example to the kids. They should be able to look at you and see someone they can follow.
  6. Pay attention to details.
  7. The main focus is teaching the game and helping the kids understand the “ process”. However we do want to win- just the right way.
  8. Constantly evaluate each player. Meet individually with each player at least twice during the season ( early and later)
  9. Teach TEAM ATTITUDE and communicate the mission/ vision of the program.
  10. Represent the program at all times ( include interactions with officials). Be yourself, and yet remember you are part of something larger.

Miscellaneous Items:

-Transportation Policy

  1. All student athletes are expected to ride the bus to all away games ( unless there is an issue that has been prearranged with Coach Higgins)
  2. Student Athletes may ride home with their parents after away games: Transportation Waiver Form must be filled out for each game and returned to Coach Higgins.
  3. Arrival Times for home games are as followed ( unless changed by the coaches and the players have been informed)
  • Freshmen ( 3:15- game @ 4:30), ( 4:15- game @ 5:30)
  • Junior Varsity ( 4:15- game @ 6:00), ( 4:15- game @ 5:30)
  • Varsity ( 5:45 –game @ 7:30), ( 5:00- game @ 7:00)

-Senior Night

  1. Main Goal= Ceremony for the Seniors will be before the game ( That is the honor)
  2. General Policy = Senior Night does not guarantee a starting spot or certain playing time.

-Awards ( Team and GWOC)

  1. Awards for the season will be handled at the banquet.
  2. Varsity Letters/ Recognition will be handled by the coaching staff ( player on the varsity roster, and or a contributor during the season will receive a letter)
  3. League awards are determined by guidelines by the league, we will do our best to get players recognized but please remember we do not dictate the results.

I hereby acknowledge that I have read and accept all rules, responsibilities and consequences within the Lebanon Basketball Program. Furthermore, I agree to do my best to follow these rules to the best of my ability. I do this so that I may fulfill the commitment that I have made to the Lebanon Basketball Program
