Learning Support Practitioner
We are seeking a high calibrecandidateto join our growing staff team as a Learning Support Practitioner (LSP). You will have excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn and the desire to be part of the development of high performing school.
The primary focus of the job is to provide 1 to 1 support for a pupil with PDA who is re-integrating into school having recently transferred schools. There is also opportunity to lead interventions for children who have special educational needs. This requires the post holder to be able to adapt to the specific needs of a single pupil or small group of pupils.
Job Description
The core role of our Learning Support Practitioner is to support the teachers in every respect so that:
- the curriculum is delivered effectively
- the children are motivated, happy, stimulated and excited to learn
- the children are encouraged to behave in a respectful, thoughtful, responsible and considerate manner
- the organisation of interventions in the classroom or outside with individuals or groups is smooth and efficient
- each child is valued and benefits from an increased level of adult support and their individual needs are met
- effective delivery of appropriate activities is undertaken
- able to reflect on own practice and make improvements to create a richer learning journey for our children
Inclusion Role
This role carries with it the opportunity to support children on our SEN register through interventions both inside and outside the classroom.
- working 1 to 1 with a child in support of their reintegration to school
- To be responsible for a pupil or small groups of pupils when directed by the teacher.
- Use initiative, specialist knowledge and experience to support pupils’ learning, including creating and/or adapting curriculum resources as necessary, and develop and implement actions that will promote the inclusion and acceptance of the pupil with his/her peers.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of individual education plans (or other pupilspecific plans).
- Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals as independently as possible.
- Be aware and inform the teacher of pupil problems/progress/achievements.
- Assist with the planning of learning activities
Other Requirements
The learning support practitioner must have a sense of humour, be willing to work as part of a team, be flexible in their approach and demonstrate patience and understanding of a young child’s needs. Knowledge of the curriculum and experience of working with children of a relevant age is essential.
Attendance at professional development days or staff meetings will be necessary from time to time during the year. The learning support practitioners will be expected to attend relevant training courses in order to enhance his/her own professional development and to keep up to date with leading edge practice.
The learning support practitioner will participate in the performance management appraisal system, designed to highlight future professional development.
