AWARENESS IN BEREAVEMENT CARE COURSE
The course is intended to enable participants to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of bereaved people using theoretical teaching, developing practical skills; it will also draw upon aspects of your own self awareness regarding grief and loss.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of the effects of bereavement and loss, on individuals and families. Also the acceptance of people as unique individuals and recognizing and respecting diversities of all cultures and beliefs.
  • To gain an awareness of their own mortality and experiences of loss and how these may affect their learning and work.
  • To gain knowledge of the theories and models of grief, including complex loss and coping mechanisms.
  • Learn to demonstrate skills, including empathy, listening and reflection.
  • To learn how to use and value supervision as part of the participants essential survival mechanisms!
  • To understand the values, systems and standards of the Guernsey Bereavement Service.
The course will provide a broad base learning opportunity, there will be 48hours of taught tuition, including elements of experiential learning, and in addition there will be sessions with specialist guest speakers. Participants will be expected to complete their own portfolios, on a weekly basis of their own learning and reflections throughout the course, which will on completion be assessed internally and externally, in order to gain full accreditation.
Due to the nature of the subject we will provide a very good and continuous level of support to the group and to individuals, throughout and following the courses completion.
It must be noted that it is not suitable for anyone who has been bereaved themselves in the past year. We welcome applicants from all ages and backgrounds, who will hopefully find it a rewarding and valuable experience.
The Guernsey Bereavement service always welcomes participants to consider becoming a volunteer support worker for the charity, helping people through their journey of loss, on the completion of this course.
This course does not qualify an individualto set up their own counselling practice. /
