Learn from the master
Open music workshops of the 8th Warsaw Cross-Culture Festival
Aside from the joy of admiring the eminent musicians from the East, the festival once again gives you an opportunity to personally meet the artists, draw from their experience, knowledge and charisma. Over the period of six days, we will be holding multiinstrumental and vocal workshops in small master classes. Warsaw will welcome musicians who are at the same time experts in their fields and internationally successful artists. We have invited artists from India, Siberia, Iran, Korea and Madagascar. The workshops will present an occasion to learn, among others, the classical and folk Indian singing styles and to find out how the performers of the extraordinary Korean singing style, pansori, achieve their dramatic, almost theatrical effect. Participating in a master class also gives you a chance to convince yourself that a folk instrument, such as a balalaika, can be the source of modern, rock energy and that, while sticking to the rules of classical violin playing, one can become a fusion music star, admired for their ingenuity. The workshops are also an opportunity to play the traditional, hand-made percussion instruments of the Near East, bringing out the same sounds that hypnotised the listeners hundreds of years ago. There will also be a chance to learn from the master how to captivate the crowd – by practicing stage expression. Participating in workshops is a unique opportunity to learn from the experts, ask questions, associate with extraordinary world music personages.
Workshops will be held in seven master classes:
Indian Singing Class - master Anoop Mishra (India)
Korean Singing Class – master Ahn Sook-sun (South Korea)
Rhythm Class – master Bijan Chemirani (Iran)
Indian Violin Class – master Dr. Jyotsna Srikanth (India)
Improvisation Class – master Vladiswar Nadishana (Siberia, Russia)
Dance and Musical Expression Class – master Kilema (Madagascar)
Class – Meeting the Master – master Alexey Arkhipovskiy (Russia)
Workshop masters will together prepare the programme of the special concert: The Sum of Traditions, which will take place on Thursday, September 27. They will create a unique event – a musical encounter of outstanding musicians from different parts of the world. The atmosphere of them playing together and the music born right in the very eyes of the public will never happen again.
Registration for workshops begins of August 20.
