Happy Halloween, Champions for Children!

On behalf of your Champions for Children team, thank you for your continued participation in UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines. Again this year, we have an exciting opportunity for you to support Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s signature fundraising campaign, now in its 62ndyear, through Change for Good from October 24-31.

Participation is simple:

  • You are encouraged to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF onboard any international flight (including those to/from Mexico and Canada!), between October 24 and October 31, 2012.
  • Pick up two or more newly designed Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes for each leg of your trip in the Duty Free cart or at your MOD office.
  • Onboard, find a child or two who you think might like to help you Trick–or-Treat for UNICEF when you’re ready to collect. Get the parents/guardian’s permission, of course! If no kids are available, no problem!
  • Deliver the special Trick-or-Treat PA found on the back of this sheet.
  • Show the special Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF video found in the following area of the IFE system:
  • 767 / 757 / 737 – SelectMonitor Cntl, then the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF video.
  • 777-200 – Select Video Announcements, InSeat, then the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF video
  • If you have a kid helper, give him or her a Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box and ask them to walk in front of you through the cabin. Help them Trick–or-Treat for UNICEF, collecting donations from customers. If you don’t have kid helpers, you may carry the box yourself (or simply use the collection bag.)
  • Once the box fills, simply add donations to the bag (the boxes are really hard to open, empty and reuse!)
  • After collections, empty the box into the collection bag, seal the bag, and deposit the bag as you normally would (in the Duty Free cart if available, or at your base’s UNICEF safe). Throw the used box away.

If you can, please take a few pictures of you and your helpers! Ask for the parents’ permission to use the photos and to use the child’s first name, then send them to along with your name and your flight details. We love stories about in-flight collections and want to share them and your photos with other flight attendants.

Thank you for having fun with this program while keeping in mind the children all over the world who will benefit from your efforts. You are truly doing amazing work!

Special UNICEF Champions for Children P.A. – Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Deliver 10/24/12 – 10/31/12

"Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is ______, and I am one of over 2,300 "Champions for Children" volunteers supportingUNICEF through the Change for Good program on American Airlines. The concept is easy: donations of cash or leftover coins from your travels can make a difference in the life of a child. Each year, millions of children do not make it to their fifth birthdays because of causes we can prevent. UNICEF is doing whatever it takes to bring this number to zero.

This Halloween, UNICEF celebratesthe 62nd anniversary of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the longest running volunteer initiative in America which has engaged millions of children all over the United States in the art of helping others. We have a short video on the programthat I’ll be showing in just a moment. You’ll find the audio on channel ______.

I will be passing through the cabin shortly with a blue & white UNICEF collection pouch and aTrick-or-Treat for UNICEF box.No donation is too small – even $1 can make a difference. We accept any currency.

Thank you so much for considering a donation.”
