Short Faculty Bio:Brandon Hamilton is President of Hamilton’s Solutions, Incorporated. On the West Coast, the company has consulted for Los Angeles Department of Health Services, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Drew University of Medicine and Science, Children’s Institute International, Ben and Jerry’s of California, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and the City of Hope. Since relocating to the Midwest, Brandon Hamilton has consulted for McGrathAutoGroup.com, the LaPorteCounty (Indiana) Department of Health, Catholic Diocese of Northwest Indiana, Trinity United Church of Christ and the Chicago Urban League.

Course description:

This course will examine the challenges of leading and managing innovative change and creative processes. The conditions in which the innovative change process is synthesized within organizations will be evaluated and the following items will be reviewed: literature on the innovative process; the contribution of individuals; cross functionality; geographic dispersion; technical communication; inter and intra organizational networks; organizational characteristics; organizational learning; and market changes. The primary goal of the course is to provide a holistic view of the process of innovation, through exploration of literature. This coursewill provideexposure to a variety of perspectives on innovation andwill promote integrativethinking about the conditions under which innovation is supported.

  • Research the organization detailed in the chosen case study, from the perspective of the dynamics of a holistic approach to innovative and change processes.
  • Write your Final Reflective Assignment (details below), detailing the innovative and change management dynamics which occurred within that organization. Include, in your analysis, information, supported by research, regarding the five levels covered in this course: individual; team; network; organizational; and industrial, utilizing actual examples from the organization you chose.
    Be sure to also discuss the following:
    a.) the connection between organizational learning and innovative change processes.
    b.) the types of resistance to change and the ways in which the organization resolved that resistance.
c.) the principles of solution-focused learning (SFL), which are: diagnosis, research, solution, implementation and evaluation.
Final Reflective Assignment – Description & Parameters
The final paper for the course is expected to be –8-10double-spaced pages in length, plus a cover page, abstract, reference pages and appendices (if needed). Follow APA 5th edition form and style. The paper will contain the following qualities:
  • Introduction (a statement of the problem)
  • Literature Review (a discussion of the pertinent literature)
  • Body (a discussion of how the literature relates to the issues
  • Summary and Future Research Recommendations.
The final paper will be graded on the:
  • applicability of the subject matter to the course objectives = 35%
