JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: To provide district-wide leadership, coordination, accountability, and management to accomplish the district’s mission of increasing academic achievement and enhancing development for all learners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education Specialist (Doctorate degree, preferred); Principal Certification (Superintendent Certification, preferred); Successful classroom teaching experience (minimum five years, preferred); Successful educational administration experience with emphasis in curriculum and instruction (minimum seven years, preferred)

Experience

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Increase learning for all students.

Examples of Work Performed:

A.Set student learning expectations via the annual school improvement training process and provide school improvement team learning opportunities on best practices.

B.Monitor learning improvements during the school year and provide feedback to the principals.

C. Identify priority schools and collaboratively determine with principals the supports that are

needed to make learning gains.

D.Provide feedback on school improvement plans and monitor programs during the year.

E. Develop a comprehensive annual academic plan that includes strategic goals, strategies and actions steps.

F. Attend Professional Learning Network meetings including Tri-County Assistant Superintendent meeting to remain abreast of changes in best practices and policy changes.

2. Coordinate and evaluate the curricula and instructional programs and make necessary

recommendations to meet the learning needs of all students.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Direct and supervise the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum.
  2. Provide leadership in developing and implementing curricular modifications and interventions

to improve student achievement, and close the achievement gap.

  1. Assist school improvement teams in planning and implementing school-based instructional approaches.
  2. Direct and supervise those whose responsibilities include facilitating the development, implementation and evaluation of various programs for professional staff development and approaches to instructional improvement.
  3. Build accountability systems for curriculum, instruction and assessment to ensure high levels

of student learning and performance.

  1. Monitor the effectiveness of all programs to ensure accountability, articulation and continuity

of the instructional process.

3.Implement and participate in district-level decision making.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Meet with the Superintendent and other executive officers on a regular basis.
  2. Participate in the district’s strategic planning process.
  3. Lead the Academic Department using an interdependent approach.
  4. Attend Board of Education meetings.
  5. Build a collaborative environment between the District office and schools.
  6. Lead Academic Strategic Planning Committee.
  7. Participate in negotiations and monthly problem-solving meetings with professional organizations.

4.Supervise and evaluate the development of administrators so that program development and assessment, and policy implementation is conducted in the best interest of students.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Meet regularly with administrators to coordinate and improve the operation and learning improvement processes of the schools.
  2. Build accountability and shared responsibility systems to support high levels of student learning.
  3. Make systematic visits to the schools to observe and evaluate the operations and improvement processes.
  4. Monitor a comprehensive professional development structure for all administrators, teachers and support staff.
  5. Monitor the implementation of the professional learning community initiative.

5.Participate in planning, developing and monitoring instructional program resources which include technology, materials, supplies and staff development for continuous improvement of the educational program.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Coordinate the needs assessment, budget development and resource deployment in area schools.
  2. Develop Academic Department budgets based on district’s strategic plan.
  3. Meet with Academic Department directors on a regular basis to review program implementation and evaluate program effectiveness.
  4. Communicate the financial implications of educational program needs to the Superintendent and other executive officers.
  5. Set annual improvement expectations for the schools and Academic Department.

6.Engage in timely communication, problem solving and conflict mediation to ensure relations with various publics of the schools.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Meet with school and community groups to communicate the goals, operations and needs of the educational program.
  2. Assist in resolving school-related complaints or problems involving students, staff, parents and community.
  3. Build a collaborative environment between school and community.
  4. Provide updates at After-School Chats, annual FHEA overview, and at district Parent Involvement Team meetings.

7.Implement all Board policies, and state and federal guidelines related to instructional programs, student interventions and programs, and financial policies.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Participate in the process of policy development.
  2. Implement and develop instructional policies and procedures relative to curricula and instructional initiatives.
  3. Review policies that pertain to student learning on an annual basis and make recommendations to Board of Education.
  4. Communicate with the Board of Education on a regular basis regarding annual program reviews and assessment data.
  5. Stay current on changes to state accreditation guidelines and implications.

8.Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

The work involves performance in an office setting with supervision of various levels of staff. The accomplishment of tasks is often interrupted by persons with immediate needs. The setting also involves transporting oneself to schools and other sites in the metropolitan area for various meetings. The work conditions feature frequent demands to resolve problems and conflict that involve students, parents and staff having diverse backgrounds and needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

One-year administrator contract initially with an option of a multi-year contract thereafter; beginning date of July 1, including twenty vacation days and eleven paid holidays; health, vision, dental and life insurance benefits.
