St Martins Youth Arts Centre is seekingexperienced Lead Workshop Artists to create and facilitate performance workshops for children aged 5-17.

Over the past three years, St Martins has implemented an ambitious artistic production strategy featuring nine new works, which have achieved public and critical acclaim. These works have been presented in collaboration with Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne Festival, Melbourne Fringe, The Substation, Dark MoFo, Darwin Festival, Dance Massive, Junction Arts Festival, BIFEM, TheatreWorks, and Castlemaine State Festival. St Martins was the winner of the 2017 Melbourne Fringe Best Live Art Award and has previously been nominated for six Green Room Awards.

A bit about You

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated artistic practice & experience increating contemporary performance.
  • Knowledge of inclusive theatre practice and processes.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with young artists and an appreciation of their creative agency.
  • Demonstrated passion and ability to work with children who have disabilities or face cultural/social barriers to exploring their creativity.
  • Facilitation experience in an arts based context.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with a range of people, especially children and teens.
  • Availability to work between 3.30 and 6.30pm during the week and between 9-4pm on Saturdays.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering theatre workshops for young people aged 5-8 years, 9-12 years and teenagers that focus on theatre-making and performance skills across the venues (South Yarra and Northcote and possibly Dandenong, St Albans and Prahran by arrangement).
  • Developing class plans and content for workshops within frameworks provided by the Artistic Associate and the Artistic Director.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with young people and parents that enable trust and collaboration.
  • Supporting children and young people who have additional needs to access the artistic process in our workshop program.

-Working cooperatively with the Inclusion Support Workshop Artist toutilise inclusive theatre practice techniques.

-As levels of access needs vary from class to class, it is desirable to have knowledge and/or experience in working across a diverse spectrum of access requirements.

-Understanding the needs of children who are culturally diverse and may have English as a second language, as well as children and young people who are educationally, economically or socially disadvantaged.

-Discussing workshop plans with the Inclusion Support Artist prior to the start of the workshop to ensure games and activities can include all the participants equitably.
