GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM
Each course requires approximately six hours a week, depending on the familiarity with the topic and the demands of the content. For example, the Creativity course is more complex in content, so it may take more time and attention than the other courses. Also note that Curriculum and Instruction is a two week (7 day) face to face course that will be offered in the summer. The amount of work in this course does not lend itself to an online format. However, FDLRS does offer an online hybrid option for this course.
Each course has anywhere from 8-10 modules and includes articles, research, videos, multimedia, etc. Participants read and view all of the information and complete assignments based on this content. Sometimes participants are asked to implement lessons learned in their classrooms.
A gifted endorsed, Leon County Schools teacher facilitates the class; he or she will read the assignments and provide feedback to participants on each assignment based on a rubric.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
You will access the course content through Moodle located inPerformance Matters. Leon County teachers log in to Performance Matters with their regular district computer username in the format schools\username and their regular district computer password. Participants from surrounding counties can contact Beth Williams at for help logging in to the FDLRS courses.
All assignments are to be completed by the due date. Failure to submit assignments within the first three weeks of the course will result in automatic removal from the class. If special circumstances arise that may cause multiple late submissions, contact Andrea Goddard at and the instructor for the course. If technology issues should arise, contact Kathleen Malloy at as well as Andrea Goddard and the instructor for the course.
It is very important that you read email regularly, as it is the primary vehicle for communicating important information to you, particularly in between classes and during summer break.
GRADING
Within each module there are assignments that must be submitted to your instructor. You will receive a complete or incomplete grade based on the quality of your response. If the response lacks requirements to earn a complete score, your instructor will provide feedback and ask you to revise your assignment and resubmit. You will be allowed one resubmit for up to three assignments, so please put forth maximum effort on the initial assignment. Thereare also quizzes in several of the modules. The quizzes are related to the readings. In order to pass the quiz, you must score at least an 80%. You can retake the quiz as many times as needed however, please note, the quiz is pass or fail, you are not notified as to which items you missed. You must complete all module assignments with a passing score, quizzes, and the post-test with a score of at least 75% in order to successfully pass the class.
STUDENT INTEGRITY
All work submitted should be your own. While we encourage collaboration among your colleagues, individual responses and products should reflect your own understanding of the material. Each person must submit the full product. A lack of authentic work will result in dismissal from the class.
