LCPS District Wellness Policy
Las Cruces Public Schools has a set of policies and regulations that promote the health of students and staff. We believe that a healthy school environment helps to create healthy students who make better learners.
District wellness policy is based on the New Mexico Model of Coordinated School Health. The model is illustrated by the “yucca” plant in which healthy students are the goal (flower) and all the areas of school health plus community services and systems constitute the leaves and roots which support the healthy students.
The following policies and regulations (procedures) together comprise the district wellness policy and correspond to the eight areas of coordinated school health.

GOALS
Goals for each of the eight areas of coordinated school health were developed during the 2015-16 school year and revised in the 2016-17 school year. A committee comprised of school nutrition and school health professionals, teachers including physical education and health education teachers, administrators, students, parents and community members plus a school board member, wrote and refined the goals. The goals were presented to various school groups including the LCPS District Advisory Council and the LCPS School Health Advisory Council for input. The goals for the 2016-17 school year can be viewed here:
EVALUATION
An evaluation survey was conducted with principals in May, 2017 to determine each school’s baseline for meeting the wellness policy goals. Summary reports for elementary, middle and high schools can be viewed by clicking on links.
