LBJ YOUTH CRICKET

NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2011

Cricket 2011 starts here!

Artificial Nets

After delays for snow, ice and floods, we have just signed off the new nets. If you have not seen them yet, why not take a trip down Burberry Lane. You won’t have trouble finding them. Our thanks go to Mark Hansford of GroundCare and his team for producing such a magnificent facility in difficult circumstances and to the ECB and KCB for their support. Also, we should not forget Leeds Castle who allowed us to extend the ground (again) by 8 metres and provided great help to GroundCare.

The development project started in 2005 is now complete.

Kent Squads

Congratulations to the following on their selection for Kent squad winter training:

Charlotte Hopkins and Hannah Davies under 15

George Davis and Alexander Kiddunder 14 Emerging Spitfires

Adam Huntunder 13

Zoe Moyler, Annys Fearon, Maddie Harrisunder 13

Rosie Galligan

Pre-Season Training

We have made some changes to the winter training programme this year. We will be able to use the new nets as soon as the weather is warm enough. So we have reduced the indoor programme to five sessions on Saturday mornings from 11.45am to 1.15pm at Maplesden Noakes from 19 February to 19 March. All hardball players will attend the same session, divided into groups. This includes Kwik cricketers from 2011. If you were playing kwik cricket last season and are in doubt about whether you should attend, please contact Richard Atkinson.

Full details of the training can be found in the attached flyer. The cost for the course is £25 payable in advance. Please book early with Richard.

District Courses and Trials

Details of the courses and trials run by Maidstone District and application forms are available on the Maidstone Academy web site .

Application forms for the Maidstone District under 14 and under 12 trials have to be returned by 14 February. The trials are on 17 February (under 14) and 18 February (under 12) at Maplesden Noakes. If you are not sure whether to apply or have any other questions please contact your coach.

Teams and Fixtures

We are entering the under 15 team in the Weald of Kent League and Cup competitions and the National Cup. As the squad is mostly under 14’s, we have withdrawn from the North Kent Junior League for 2011. The NKJL Committee has kindly invited us to reapply if we wish to rejoin for 2012.

The under 13’s and under 11’s will be in the Weald of Kent competitions as usual ( The under 13’s will also be in the National Cup. We will be arranging Challenge matches against clubs from outside the league, as usual.

At the Weald of Kent AGM it was recognized that the results have not been kept up to date on the league website. The league committee is looking for a volunteer to administer the site and make sure the clubs keep the results up to date. Do we have a candidate for that role?

Alan Moyler’s under 13 girls team will continue. We are not sure yet whether they will be under 13’s or under 14’s. It depends on other clubs taking up the proposal to keep last year’s squads intact.

One of our targets is to start an under 11 girls team if we can raise enough players and find a volunteer to manage the squad.

The Kwik Cricket programme will be geared to preparing teams for the Kwik Cricket tournaments.

Social and Fund-Raising

The Presentation Night took place in September as usual. The winners of the awards were

Chairman’s Award: George Duggan

Under 15: Dan Barkaway and Marcus Prime

Under 13:Matt Mustill and Dom Smith

Under 11:Monte McCague and Suarav Parmar

Under 9:Sam Stevens and Bradley Thomas

George Davis received the under 13 Inter-League cup, as the captain of the winning team, and Adam Hunt received the Weald of Kent under 13 trophy, as the leading under 12 player.

Zoe Moyler earned a very special mention for her part in the Kent girls team which won the national county championship.

Volunteer of the year was Lyn Millington.

Subscriptions and Fees

For 2011, the LBJ annual fee will remain at £30 per player to include all practice sessions (except indoor training). This will be payable by 31 May and includes a £20 subscription to the Club. Two children from the same family will pay a reduced rate of £50 instead of £60. Match fees will remain at £3 per game.

In addition, there is the opportunity to join the L&BCC 100 Club. Please let us know if you would like to be included.

L&BCC Website

The landbcricket site has been closed. Chris Davis is working on a new LBCC site which will draw together all the many squads and activities within the club. (Chris came up through our junior teams. Now that he has graduated he is going to captain the adult Sunday X1 in the Kent Village League this year.)

We also have the Leeds & Broomfield online shop with links to Amazon, M&S and many other major online and High Street retailers. If you shop through our website then the Club receives a small percentage from the retailer. The price to you is the same. Our shop is at .

Primary School Links

2010 was our fifth and final year in the Chance to shine scheme. At the time of writing, we are making arrangements to continue our links with our local primary schools. With the help of Phil Pass, we will be running a coaching programme in term 5 and holding events at the club for the schools and for children on holiday.

Volunteers

Everything we do depends on volunteers. If everyone contributes something, on or off the field, we will prosper. Please don’t wait to be asked. There are so many skills out there and so many jobs to do. We will find the right role for you.

The club will pay for any training required. All volunteers who will work closely with children must have a Criminal Records Bureau check, which will be organised by the Club Welfare Officer at no cost.

LBCC Kit

We have new club clothing for players and supporters of all ages. Aaron Bailey has made the arrangements. Please contact Aaron direct by email at .

New Members

We are always looking for new members and the players themselves have always been the best recruiters. These days we have more competition than ever. If you have friends who might be interested in joining, please encourage them to contact us.

Feedback

We welcome your comments. Please let us have any questions or suggestions.
