ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL – STUDENTS

  • PLEASE NOTE THAT SUPERVISION IS NOT PROVIDED BEFORE 7:15a.m. EACH MORNING.DO NOT drop students off prior to 7:15a.m.
  • At 7:15a.m., all students are to go directly to their cafeteria and sit with their class. At 7:45 students will be picked up and taken to their classroom to eat breakfast.
  • Parents are asked to allow students to enter the building UN-ESCORTED after the first week of school. This allows for a smooth transition and promotes self-responsibility.
  • Follow the traffic plan and regulations. This will allow for a smooth and safe process to occur.

ATTENDANCE – STUDENTS

  • Excellent attendance is imperative to ensure student success. Absences and tardiness interrupt the learning process.
  • If a student arrives after 7:45a.m., the student will be marked tardy.
  • If the student arrives before 8:15, they are to report directly to their classroom and receive their tardy pass from their teacher.
  • If a student arrives after 8:15, they must report to the office and to receive their tardy pass to class. A student will not receive a Perfect Attendance Award if he/she has more than 3 tardies (district policy).
  • Absences will be coded “excused” if the parent calls that day and “unexcused” if no call is received. Notes from doctors, dentists, etc., are required to be entered in the system within 5 days. It is the parent’s responsibility to send the note to the Pease Attendance Clerk within 5 days. Any student accumulating 10 or more absences will need a physician’s note to have any further absencesto be considered excused.
  • If a student leaves before 3:21 pm., it is documented in the district system. A student will not receive a Perfect Attendance Award if he/she leaves early at any time during the nine weeks.
  • Requested assignments/homework will be in the office after 3:21 p.m.if the request is made prior to 9:30a.m.
  • Board Policy indicates that students have the number of days absent plus one additional day to turnin completed make-up work. Accepting assignments after that time is at the teacher’s discretion.

AWARD ASSEMBLIES AND STUDENT RECOGNITIONS

Assemblies will be at the end of each 9 weeks. The following awards may be given (but are not limited to):

  • A Honor Roll = All A’s with no grade lower than S in conduct and other subjects
  • A/B Honor Roll = any combination of A’s and B’s with no grade lower than S in conduct and other subjects.

7:15 Building opens (Please do not leave your students unattended on campus prior to 7:15).

7:45Tardy bell—students must obtain a tardy pass from their classroom teacher

8:15Students arriving after this time must report to the office to receive a tardy pass

BIRTHDAY PARTIES

  • Birthday parties are not permitted in classrooms until the last 20 minutes of the school day. Parents may bring store bought snacks/drinks to the office on the day of the child’s birthday and they will be delivered to the room.
  • Invitations to any non-school party may not be given out to students at school unless every child is distributed one. This is non-negotiable.

CAFETERIA & MEALS

Breakfast:

  • All students will eat breakfast in the classrooms. Please do not bring food from home for breakfast. If the student does not wish to eat the school breakfast, have him/her eat breakfast before arriving at school.

Lunch:

  • Students will remain seated untildismissed.
  • Friends may not sit or eat with another parent and their child in the designated area. Other students must remain with the class.
  • Parents are welcome to come to Pease to eat with their child after signing-in in the office.
  • Due to limited space, parents are only allowed to eat with their student at the designated parent tables.
  • Siblings may not leave their class to eat at the same time.
  • Parents are asked to make plans with their child about lunch before school, as classrooms will not be interrupted to give messages about lunch to students.
  • If a student is expecting his/her parent for lunch or to bring lunch, he/she may wait 10 minutes from the time entering the cafeteria. If the parent has not come by that time, the student will be directed to go through the lunch line.

Because of the laws on minimal nutritional value, pizza, hotdogs, etc., may not be served before 2:00p.m. as a class party/activity. Students are not allowed to share food with others or give food to others. This is non-negotiable.

CELL PHONES/PAGERS

Student possession of cell phones/pagersthat are TURNED ON during school hoursisagainst the ECISD Code of Conduct and will be confiscated with a $15.00 charge in order to get these items back. Students may leave phones in the office in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Pease will not be responsible for cell phones/pagers that are stolen or lost at school. Pease will only accept checks or money orders, NO cash.

DISMISSAL, BUS, & PARENT PICK-UP (See complete details on the Pease website.)

  • We strive to make bus travel a safe and pleasant experience for all students and drivers. Please remind your child(ren) that riding the bus is a privilege. If the student misbehaves on the school bus, the bus driver will issue a written bus report to the principal. Bus rules must be followed or a student can be denied bus services. If you have questions concerning transportation, please call 456-9869.
  • Students who ride the bus are to ride the bus each afternoon unless the parent has sent a written note.
  • Students WILL NOT BE PULLED OFF OF A BUS TO CHANGE DISMISSAL. Once they get on the bus, they stay on the bus.
  • We will be unable to change dismissal after 2:40.
  • Every student will be assigned a number based upon their grade level and dismissal method. Be sure that the lime green tag is visible at dismissal. Otherwise, you will have to go to the main office to show your identification.

DRESS CODE

  • Extreme modes of hair design such as shaved emblems or designs in a students’ hair is NOT permitted. (No distinctive lines.)
  • No tank tops or shirts with straps thinner than 3 fingers in width, no bare midriffs.
  • All shorts, dresses, and skirts must be a length of at least 5 inches above the knee.
  • Leggings should not be worn as pants unless covered by a garment that meets the length guidelines.
  • The district also prohibits pictures, symbols, emblems, or writing on clothing and accessories that: present a concern for safety, are lewd, offensive, vulgar or obscene; advertise, or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or any other illegal substance; refer to satanic, cult or gang activities; or represent death and dismemberment and/or violence (clothing with wrestling depicted on it).
  • No hats inside the building, bandanas are not permitted at all.
  • Sagging pants will not be allowed.
  • All clothing must be hemmed, no frayed edges.
  • Clothing with any holes will not be allowed.
  • Dress and Grooming: Please see the district dress code in the student code of conduct handbook for a complete explanation. The final decision regarding any dress code violation is at the discretion of the campus principal.

Violations in dress code will result in having the studentremoved from the classroom and asked to turn their clothing inside out or having the parent come to campus to help rectify the situation.

PLANNING PERIODS

  • Each teacher has a 45-minute planning period daily.
  • Parents should call to schedule appointments.(456-1179)
  • Calls will not be connected to classrooms except during the teacher’s planning times.

HOMEWORK

  • Homework or projects will not be assigned over any holiday unless it is STAAR practice.
  • Homework will have a specific purpose and require a reasonable amount of time.
  • Work not finished in class in a reasonable amount of time is not considered “assigned homework.” It is considered to be an incomplete assignment thus causing students to sometimes have homework plus the incomplete assignment.

MEDICAL

  • It will be the nurse’s responsibility to determine if a student should be sent home. The nurse will contact parents.
  • MEDICATIONS AND INHALERS ARE NOT TO BE KEPT IN THE CLASSROOM!
  • If prescribed medication is to be given during school hours, the parents are to come into the office and fill out the paperwork so that the nurse will know when and how medication should be given.
  • Administration of over the counter medication will be at the discretion of the campus nurse. (This medication must be provided by parents and forms filled out prior.)

MESSAGES

  • Please make arrangements with your child so they will know whether they walk home or if they will be picked up. We will not interrupt instruction time to give students messages unless it is an extreme emergency.
  • Any deliveries of flowers, balloons, etc. will not be accepted for students.

PROHIBITED

Students are prohibited from possessing or using permanent markers or laser pointers on school property.

PARTIES

  • Threeclass parties may be held for students each school year.(Halloween, Winter, Valentine’s Day)
  • All parties are to be limited to the last hour of the day.
  • Invitations to any non-school party may not be given out to students at school unless the teacher insures that every child is included. This is non-negotiable.

PTA

All parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to join PTA. PTA is a wonderful organization that truly is an asset to Pease and promotes quality education. Pease PTA provides an opportunity for a strong partnership and effective communications to develop between home and school. Active and meaningful involvement on the part of families and teachers produces a climate of trust, belonging, and partnership in education of all students.

SPECIAL AREAS

  • Library, PE, music, and other special area classes are part of the Pease total program.
  • It is not optional for students to attend these classes.
  • All students are to participate in PE unless a note from the parent has been received. Non-participation for more than 3 consecutive days will require a doctor’s note.
  • Students who have a note to stay inside during PE will be sent to the Reading or Discipline Buddy’s room.

TESTING DAYS

There will be several days where grades 3-5 will be taking the state mandated STAAR tests. On these days, no parents will be permitted to eat with their child/ren. We will send notes home notifying you of these dates to help you better prepare for lunchtimes. Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.

TEXTBOOKS

  • Textbooks and planners must be brought to school daily.
  • Lost books must be paid for before another will be issued.
  • Textbooks are accounted for each nine week period. If there is a missing book, action will be taken at the time of the book count. Please help assist the school in either finding the book or taking care of the charge in a timely manner.

TITLE IX/SEXUAL HARASSMENT or BULLYING

Any form of sexual harassment whether student-to-student, adult-to-student, student-to-adult, or adult-to-adult is to be reported to school administration immediately. Any violation of this matter will not be tolerated at Pease Elementary.

TRAFFIC PLAN & SAFETY

  • Your support and cooperation for the safety for all is truly appreciated. The Pease Traffic Plan will be sent home with your student. There is also a copy of it on the Pease website.
  • Do NOT drop off or pick up students from the street. All parents must follow the traffic plan to ensure the safety of all students.
  • Please note that any student who has not been picked-up by 3:35p.m. will be taken to the office to remain until the parent comes in to sign him/her out. Late pick-ups are documented each time.
  • After 4 late pick-ups are documented, a report may be made to the ECISD Police Department and a meeting with school administration is required. Please know that this is in the best interest and safety of each child.
  • Early Dismissal: Students will not be called for early dismissal from 3-3:21 pm. Requests during this time frame cannot be honored.

VISITORS

  • Visitors are welcome at Pease!
  • Visitors are asked to meet the minimum dress code while in the building that is required for all students.
  • All visitors are to enter at the front door and must register in the office.
  • Visitors are to return to the office to note the time they leave the building.

All visitors to Pease are respectfully asked to adhere to the dress code for students.

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

Please see the Pease PBIS handbook for further information on our positive behavior support system. It was created to teach students proper behavior by setting specific expectations throughout the building. These behaviors are practiced and universal, creating a safe environment where all students can learn.
