Lay Member – Patient and Public Involvement

NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups Partnership

The three Clinical Commissioning Groups in Leeds are merging from 1 April 2018, and we are recruiting a Lay Member – Patient and Public Involvement to join the governing body.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that in all aspects of our business the CCG maintains effective governance and makes the best possible decisions for patients and service users. You’ll also see that the CCG acts on information to improve the quality of services we commission. The Lay Member – Patient and Public Involvement will bring their unique perspective, informed by their expertise and experience.

You will also be involved in and participate in Governing Body and other meetings, and will chair our Patient Assurance Group. The successful candidate will have the following specific competencies & qualifications for the role:

  • ability to chair committees effectively;
  • understanding of the local arrangements for listening and responding to the voices of patients, carers and patients organisations; and
  • understanding of effective involvement and engagement techniques, and how these can be applied in practice.

You will ensure that the public voice of the local population is heard and that opportunities are created and protected for patient and public empowerment in the work of the CCG.

Previous experience of working in a collective decision-making group such as a board or committee, or high-level awareness of ‘board-level’ working; anda track record in securing or supporting improvements for patients or the wider public is essential.

Applicants will also be able to demonstrate a special interest in Leeds, for example, living or working in the area or by being closely involved in projects and other activities in the city. Some time commitment may be required in the evenings and there will be some travel within the CCG boundary and occasionally further afield.

The time commitment will be 3 days per month (on average) and remuneration is to be confirmed.

This post is a three year appointment, commencing from April 2018.

Please check that you are eligible to apply – see application pack, as certain restrictions are in place if you hold some other public office positions. This is covered in the pack.
