Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects, P.C. is an award-winning, nationally recognized landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm. Located in Old Town Alexandria, VA, three blocks from the Potomac River and the Mt. Vernon bike trail, we are near the Braddock Road Metro Station, a Capital Bikeshare docking station, several public parks and many lunch spots. Our office culture is informal and smoke free.
Our practice recognizes that design is a process that goes beyond a client’s program and a designer’s solution. Our practice involves connecting communities and people to nature and culture. Projects include public spaces, active transportation, leisure travel, recreation and tourism, live/work places and outdoor learning. Our work ranges in scale from courtyards to campuses, from riverfronts to regions. Our geography ranges from the Mojave Desert to Martha’s Vineyard, from the Delmarva Peninsula to the Illinois Prairie.
Skills Required
L/KLA is a small practice that often teams with like-minded partners across disciplines. We are seeking a team player that has the ability and interest in complexstrategic design thinking and integrated project development. We are looking for an intern who is interested in working on public projects, primarily located in the DC metro area. The internship offers exposure to the field of landscape architecture in a small office environment. The position requires flexible hours, with the potential involvement in evening and weekend public meetings.
Excellent design communication and writing skills are desired. Experience with various software packages a plus, we offer continued instruction, learning opportunities and practice using AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, MicroStation and 3-D modeling programs.
Education Requirements
Preference will be given to students enrolled in a degree program in landscape architecture or planning with a strong and demonstrated interest in public work.
Compensation: Hourly, rate to be commensurate with experience. Anticipated time commitment of 30-40 hours per week for a period of 8 – 10 weeks.
