Language Intervention
Susie Buchanan
In this class, you will be working on reading and language arts skills needed in order to be successful in high school. Your class time will be split with 45 minutes of language intervention and 45 math intervention (with Ms. Ailstock).
*Note to parents/guardians: You will be receiving a letter in the next couple of weeks giving you more detail about the intervention process and what your child is doing on individual assignments. Also, you will either receive a midterm or grade card every 4 ½ weeks in order to know more about their grade/credit. You will also be receiving a weekly newsletter, Husky Happenings, from our class that will have class and school related information.
During the first couple of weeks, we will be working on i-Ready assessment. This is a computer program that will give us a current grade level for both math and reading. We will use the information from i-Ready to achieve the following:
· Work on individual lessons
· Understand our strengths and weaknesses
· Improve reading/math skills
To be successful in this class, you must do the following:
· Be on time for class – be in your seat when the bell rings; 4 tardies = 1 day absent that cannot be made up in afterschool
· Have good attendance – refer to new attendance policy in the student handbook. If you are absent, come see me the next day that you return to school. You will have three days to make up any missing assignments. After that time period, the highest grade you can receive on the assignment is a 70. Check the work folder for missed worksheets/activities.
· Try- work hard so that you can receive a good grade and be moved out of intervention class
· Clean up after yourself- food and drinks are allowed in the class but must be cleaned up before leaving. Please do not be late to class because you have went to cafeteria or snack machine. If you are late because of food/drinks, we will no longer be able to have these items in the classroom.
· Be respectful to others and your self- do not say mean or inappropriate things to others; no bad language will be tolerated in my classroom.
**Yellow tickets will be completed by the teacher and student for missing assignments, inappropriate behaviors and tardies to class. Yellow tickets will be shared with principal and parents/guardians.**
