April 7, 2017
Current Events:Welcome back from Spring Break. Hopefully, we are all recovered and ready to complete the year. The children looked really cute for their spring pictures on Tuesday. On Thursday and Friday the children got to experience where they will be going to school and take their letters to a pen pal from their schools. It’s hard to believe that we only have 30 days of BME with students!! Please make sure to call by next Friday, April 14th with the number of people attending the BME Homecoming on Saturday, April 22 from 2:00 -4:00. We need to know so that we can order enough food for the event. Thanks for sending in your 6 treat filled eggs --if you have not send in your child’s eggs, please send in your child’s 6 treat filled eggs by Wednesday.
Language Arts:The children have worked on using their sentences to write a narrative about making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and using correct mechanics in the paragraph.
Math: I was really excited to see how well the children have progressed with their money recognizing, knowing the value, and counting a collection of pennies, nickels, and dimes! Your home practice and support has really helped their growth in this skill, thanks! We started a new unit of math involving the concepts on finding the line of symmetry—equal, matching parts, recognizing fractions, and writing fractions of 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4.At home you can cut fruit or sandwiches into ½, ¼, or 1/3 to show equal parts to reinforce these concepts that we’re developing. Next week we will look at sets to determine how to equally divide groups into the fraction amounts Please continue to spend a little time doing Math facts each day as we prepare for the end of the year Math 2 minute timed assessment. I have attached a fraction tic-tac-toe game to play at home with your child to reinforce the concepts that we are learning.
Science:We continue to learn about the parts of the plant and its purpose. We also planted a choice of seed to watch it grow and hopefully, we will get these home to plant in your garden or some spot at home.
Social Studies: With Ms. Cox, the children sequenced a time line of Ben Franklin’s life.

FREE AQUATIC SNAILS & GUPPIES: I cannot keep the guppies and water snails. I will need to find homes for these animals so that we can clean the tanks and get those returned to central office for another elementary school to have for use in the fall. I have 4 tanks with 4-6 guppies, snails, and water plants. Let me know if you would like to have these animals/plants. You can come before or after school to get these critters and water plants—just let me know a day and time, after April 17th. Please bring a vessel for getting the animals/plants home. These freebies are on a first come basis.
Spring Reminders:
Halter tops, spaghetti straps, and muscle shirts are not allowed to be worn to school.
Tennis shoes are needed for daily play. There’s less injury to feet, toes, and ankles if the children wear their tennis shoes for daily school activities.
Have your child to keep a light sweater/sweatshirt in his/her book bag because temperature inside the school building does vary—sometimes greatly. Thus, your child can add a layer if the air conditioning is too cold once it gets started.
Please stop by and look at the many items that have been found at school. These items are in the lost and found in the cafeteria. You may not have missed the item yet, but seeing it may jog your memory that it’s been missing.
