The total funding allocation is £106,500. Please see the table below for details on how this has been allocated.

Area 1 Supporting Achievement/ Attainment / Evaluation
Enhanced Core subject support
Additional maths support / £25K
£5K / Provision
The school prioritised the level of support for pupil premium learners falling behind in years five and six. We have drawn on good practice guides from Ofsted and research based evidence. Our pupil premium intervention teacher attended the Pupil Premium Best Practice conference.
There has been:
  • increased engagement of pupil premium children. Increased teacher time has been spent with pupil premium children to develop their attitudes and aspirations within the core areas.
  • increased levels of support in the form of pre-tutoring and teaching and learning strategies to develop independence and motivation.
/ There is a developing idea of scholarship and learning to learn.
Pupil premium children in years 5 and 6 are making good progress when other factors are taken into account.
Percentage of pupil premium across school behind age related expectation has fallen by 8% from September to May
Percentage of pupil premium in years 5 and 6 behind age related expectation has fallen by 19% from September to May
Reading Resources / £1K / We have invested heavily in ensuring that all reception and KS1 staff and those staff new to those areas receive good quality training in phonics, including NQTs, teaching and support staff. / A wider range of phonics interventions in early years
Maths Resources / £1K / Bright – pi mental maths scheme, Numicon intervention for Foundation and KS1 / Teachers increased confidence in teaching mental methods
More focused interventions in number in the early years
New curriculum resourcing / £2,500 / In particular, dedicated staff time to organising and delivering Aspiration Day, an idea drawn from the Pupil Premium Best Practice conference. / Excellent feedback from children and adults about the impact of the day
Speech and language support / £4K / Language Link in KS1 and has been extended to KS2. This is having an impact on children’s understanding of language across the school
KS2 teachers identified specific children they thought would benefit from this intervention during the Autumn term. All children were assessed and TA’s trained with delivering the programme. / From session assessments this programme is having a positive impact on the majority of the pupils.
Positive feedback from TA’s has been given regarding the children on language link in foundation and KS1.
School and LA have worked with parents this year looking in detail at the language link programme and what strategies they can be using at home to support their child. 12-15 parents attended these meetings with positive feedback from all but one parent.
Additional staffing / £19K / A dedicated non class-based teacher deployed to narrowing gaps for pupil premium children, beginning with a focus in years 5 and 6. / This teacher was moved back into class for operational reasons and HLTA took on role.
Additional lunchtime staff/resources / £10K / Additional support has been successful in helping children who have difficulties socialising successfully and in developing ways to reduce anxiety for them. / Excellent feedback from children who have received extra support from CFM to reduce anxiety and keep them happy in school
Attendance support/pastoral support, Breakfast Club
Educational Welfare Support / £9K / Significant progress has been made with a small group of children whose attendance was very low. This has been achieved through close contact and support for families.
Collection and Breakfast club- started on Monday 30/1/2017 - 10 children offered this service
We collect vulnerable children from home, bring them into school and provide the breakfast club to give them a good start to the day.
Costs include purchase of car seats £50.00, car Insurance £20.00, , additional hours for staff to perform duties out of their normal working hours and food running from start of the project in January to date £100.00 approx. / Just over half of the pupil premium children targeted improved their attendance over the year. However, the remaining few children’s attendance dropped by an average of 5%. These few children have very poor attendance, contribute significantly to the school’s overall absence figure and their educational opportunities are reduced. We are continuing to work hard to change this and are considering a range of options going forward.
Child and Family Mentors / £4.5K / Our CFM and wider support network has expanded and is providing crucial support for vulnerable children and families. These families have a range of issues that impact upon the children and their happiness and fulfilment in school. Our CFM network has provided support in the form of practical assistance with transport, clothing, parenting and form filling; emotional support for bereavement, mental health issues and domestic abuse and support with accessing help from other agencies.
Members of staff also provide emotional support and counselling for children on a regular one to one or group basis to ensure that their needs are met. / CFM able to work for extended periods of time with children and their families and support parents in attending CP meetings etc.
Reduced behaviour issues and exclusion avoided
Area 3Ensuring Equality of Access to Curriculum
Inclusion Support staff (HLTA status) / £20K / The school prioritised the well-being of children who experience difficulties relating to their peers. For example, regular ‘friendship’ groups are provided to discuss and resolve relationship issues to improve emotional well-being and engagement in school and learning.
High levels of intervention and support in years 4 and 5, for instance within our ‘championing’ scheme, by a wide range of staff members have resulted in much improved attitudes and dispositions to learning.
HLTA in foundation works closely with parents and staff within this phase. She organises staff to assess and implement Language link within foundation and KS1. She attends specific meetings with Inclusion manager, parents and staff regarding needs of specific children. She conducts home visits/nursery visits for children with SEND within this phase. She implements many of the interventions for children in this stage and mentors new members of the team so they are able to support particular children. She also liaises with outside agencies. / For the majority of vulnerable children in these year groups who were considered to be at risk of disaffection at the beginning of this academic year the risk has lessened to minimal. The percentage of pupil premium children behind in any of the core areas has dropped in years 4 and 5 by 33% and 13% respectively. This is a greater drop than for non-pupil premium children.
There are still a very small number of at risk children. These children are the focus of assessment and support from other agencies.
Contribution to trips/activities / £2.5K / Pupil Premium funding has been used to ‘poverty proof’ these activities to ensure that all children have similar opportunities to access them regardless of parents’ ability to pay.
