Program Facilitator: Part-time, Term-time

4 hours per week: Mondays 9-11.30am and 1.5 hours negotiable to suit the program needs

1 year contract available fromTerm 1 (1 February) 2016

Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services(SCHCADS) Level 3.1($25.11 per hr)

This role will provide a facilitator forthe Parents on Mondays (POMS) program offered at Aldinga Community Centre on Monday mornings. The role involves being present at the POMS weekly session to facilitate group planning, and to support parents/caregivers in increasing their awareness and access to community resources. The focus is to develop networks that enhance resilience and family wellbeing. The out of session time is to liaise with community agencies and organise speakers/resources for the group.

Parents on Mondays (POMS)

This program is an inclusive group for parents, other carers and children. The aim is to support and strengthen families and caregivers to share their experiences on parenting, to develop resilience and wellbeing, and to better connect with their broader local community.

A crèche worker will also be on site to provide a positive role modeland ensure children are supervised, thus allowing the adults to focus on their own activities.

Key responsibilities and duties

In conjunction with the parents/caregivers

  • facilitate the weekly group session
  • plan, implement and evaluate a strength-based program relevant to the group’s needs
  • liaise with internal and external agencies to support the group’s needs
  • coordinate guest speakers for the group
  • review and promote group norms
  • organise resources as needed for the group sessions
  • continue to develop the group’s resource folder, including templates to support the group’s ongoing operation and information on local agencies
  • develop individual and group skills to enable the program to continue independently into the future
  • become familiar with the policies and procedures relating to the Centre and ensure that they are adhered to at all times
  • use resources effectively
  • apply consistent and appropriate measures that encourage positive behaviour
  • facilitate effective interaction between groups and individuals
  • ensure the health and safety of program users
  • promote an environment where children and parents feel welcome and accepted
  • encourage parents/caregivers to develop confident, effective trusting relationships with children and each other.

Conditions

The successful applicant will be required to provide a current National Criminal History Check, Child Safe Environs Certificate and 2 Referees
