Lancashire Constabulary

Sports & Social Club

The Lancashire Constabulary Sports and Social Club was formed on 15 January 1952.

Interpretation

It is important to remember that Divisional Clubs are a separate entity to the County Club. The differences are outlined in the following sections.

Current Formation

The Club is divided into five separate bodies each governed by a similar constitution.

There are four Divisional Clubs (including Headquarters) and a County Club that operates across the whole force.

The objects of the Club shall be to encourage and promote all forms of sport, social and recreational activities for all its members.

Divisional Clubs

Each Police Division of the force has its own Sports & Social Club that is independent of the County Club. The club operates its own constitution, has a Management Committee made up of members from the Division and operates its own budget. The elected chairman is usually the Divisional Commander of that division with the remainder of the committee being voted in by its members at its AGM held on or before 15 March each year.

In most cases individuals become members of the Divisional Club where they work. However, in some cases, some individuals may choose to be a member of a different divisional club, for example, in the area that they reside.

All divisions offer sport and recreation facilities for its members. As a whole, divisional activities are generally geared toward being non-competitive, being more social and recreational.

The divisions are: West, South, East and Headquarters.

County Club

Operates independently of Divisional Clubs and has no particular base. However, most committee business is conducted at police headquarters.

Every member of Divisional Clubs is automatically attached to the County Club. A levy of around £2 per member per year is paid by divisions that automatically affiliates individuals to the County Club.

The County Club has 30 defined sports sections that include a varied range of sporting activities. These tend to be geared toward competitive sport playing against other police forces and organisations. Most sports sections are attached to the Police Sport UK and compete in matches on regional and national levels against all UK police forces.

Some of our more talented members are selected to play for the British Police on a national level or in the European Police Championships on an International level.

Financial support is given to members playing regional and national PSUK and County Police sports events. A greater percentage of financial support is given to playing of PSUK sport.

Eligibility

Serving police officers, PCSO’s, police staff, Specials and retired members are all eligible to compete in all County Sport activities including PSUK events.

Retired members and Specials must be full members of the Club if they wish to compete in County Sport activities.
