Summary

The Grant Writer is responsible for the writing and submission of grant proposals that support the health center’s programs and initiatives. The Writer works closely with the Development Manager, Grant Programs& Researchand others throughout the organization to write and ensure timely submission of all grant applications. This position is also responsible for the administrative activities associated with grant submissions including maintenance of files, filing of historical copies and the tracking of submissions. This position requires a high-level understanding of the grant writing process, extensive experience writing successful proposals for highly competitive grants, excellent time-management and project management skills and excellent communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Writing and Submission:

  • Write, edit and submit all grant applications for new and existing programs in conjunction with medical, dental, and behavioral health programs,exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling;
  • Complete all applications with appropriate attachments, including fiscal items, for review by the leadership team and others;
  • Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material;
  • Utilize to apply for federal grants as well as electronic report submission tools such as the Electronic Handbook (EHB);
  • Prepare other informational and fund-raising materials and communications as required;
  • Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the organization, and use that knowledge and understanding to better inform your writing and comprehension of all projects and programs for which funding is needed.

General:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director, Community Relations & Corporate Development.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in grant writing; technical writing experience preferred.

Knowledge/Abilities: Expert understanding of the grant writing process;Extensive experience writing successful proposals for highly competitive grants; Superior writing and proof-reading skills; Sense of initiative and the ability to undertake and successfully conclude grant proposals with minimal supervision; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with competing priorities; Acute attention to detail with speed and accuracy; Experience with grants.gov and electronic report submission tools such as the Electronic Handbook (EHB); experience in healthcare environment preferred.
