Margaret Warner Educational Grants

2015-2016

“If we ever needed educated people, we need them now, with all the complex problems of the world…people must be knowledgeable, self-disciplined…and able to stick to a task.”

–Miss Margaret Warner

Dear Lakewood City Schools Teaching Staff:

The Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation is pleased to announce that funds will be availablefor educational grants for the 2015-16 school year. These funds are from a generous bequest from MissMargaret Warner, a longtime educator in the Lakewood City Schools. Upon her death in 1998, Miss Warner left a major gift to the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation. The board of trustees of the Foundation, in consultation with friends and colleagues of Miss Warner, established an endowed fund. Income from the Margaret Warner Educational Grants Fund and donations to the Foundation provide an annual source of funding for this grant program.

Miss Warner, a social studies teacher, came to Lakewood in 1927. Prior to her assignment at Lakewood High School, Miss Warner taught at Emerson Jr. High. As a devoted teacher, she spent 46 years in the Lakewood City School system. Some of Miss Warner’s career highlights are as follows:

  • Chairperson of Social Studies Department 1964
  • Sponsored Hi-Forum and mock United Nation Conference
  • Vital interest in the Council of World Affairs
  • AFS Committee
  • Group leader in World and European History

When Miss Warner retired in January 1971, one of her first priorities was to do anything she could “to help public schools to be places of good instruction – there is nothing more important than education.”

With this in mind, attached you will find the grant application that explains the parameters of the application process. Be descriptive as possible in your explanation of your needs. Please send your application via email to my attention. Additional supporting material may be mailed to us. A committee of trustees of the Foundationwill convene this summer. Finalists may be asked for additional information or to answer questions from the committee. Awards will be announced at Convocation in August, and funds will beavailable immediately thereafter. If you have any questions, you may contact the Foundation at or 216.529.4033.

Sincerely,

Missy S. Toms
