This summer, men and women from all over the world will converge on Australia to partake in one of the grandest traditions in sports; the Olympic Games. Just a few weeks later, the Boy Scouts of the Lake Minnetonka District will converge on Carver Park to partake in one of scouting’s grandest traditions; the Fall Camporee. This year, the Boy Scouts of the Lake Minnetonka District will honor all of the Olympians who dedicate their life to friendly competition and sportsmanship by holding the 2000 Fall Olympiad Camporee. Please read this packet carefully, and make sure it is shared with Scoutmasters, Senior Patrol Leaders, and the rest of your unit. A second information packet, with maps and full descriptions of all of the events, will be distributed at the September roundtable.

Location

The 2000 Fall Camporee will be held at the Springview and Parley Lake sites at Carver Park near Victoria Minnesota. Carver Park is located on County Road 11, about 6 miles west of Excelsior on Highway 7, or about one half mile west of downtown Victoria on Highway 5. Maps and specific directions will be included in the September information packet.

Event RulesScout Oath and Scout Laws

ScoringTroops, patrols and scouts will be judged on their patrol method, scout

spirit and participation

Check-inFriday evening, or Saturday morning. See schedule. PLEASE have your campout roster ready at check-in.

ParkingSEE REGISTRATION SHEET! $5.00 per vehicle per day, so please bring as few vehicles as possible. Information on parking at the campsite will be available in the September information packet.

FiresNO GROUND FIRES! Use approved above ground unit. Provide your own firewood.

GarbagePack it in, pack it out. No littering will be tolerated!

LatrinesPorta-potties and permanent latrines on site

WaterWater is available on site

HeadquartersIn the Barn Basement at the Parley Lake site

1st AidEach troop should be able to care for minor injuries. Major injuries will be attended to by staff. Please have the proper medical paperwork handy for every boy.

FeesSee pre-registration section

Religious serviceA scout is reverent. A non-denominational service will be available. See schedule.

UniformsScout uniforms ONLY. No camouflage or military uniforms. Scouts and leaders are expected to be in full uniform for the Friday and Saturday evening programs as well as the flag-raising ceremonies.

Scout behaviorScouts will be expected to follow the rules and regulations, and listen to leaders and staff. Anyone not heeding these instructions will be asked to leave the camporee. Remember, scouting is a safe haven for boys!

Special Events

-There will be a special Friday evening Torchlighting ceremony. All troops are encouraged to attend.

-Saturday evening will have a traditional campfire accompanied by an Olympic style awards ceremony.

-Sunday morning flag raising will be accompanied by a closing ceremony.

-Each Unit will represent a country participating in the 2000 Olympic games.

* Each troop will choose their country at the September roundtable. Troops not represented at the September roundtable will be assigned a country to represent.

* Each unit is expected to have a 3-ft by 5ft flag of their country. They should bring their flag to flag raising, the torchlighting ceremony, and the award ceremony.

* Patrols will have opportunity to compete in a cook-off with a dish from their Troop’s

country.

* Troops are encouraged to adorn their campsites and clothing based on their county.

* All adornments must be respectful and tasteful!!!

  • Each registered troop will receive 4 one day parking permits. Any permits required beyond that will be the responsibility of the troop.

Please remember to have a complete roster of people in attendance ready when you check in at the Camporee. Please make sure you have permission slips and medical forms available for each person in attendance.
