Lake Madrone Bark, November 2011

BITS FROM THE BOARD

Newly elected LMWD Board Members are Dennis Nay, Mike Sanford, and Jim Smith. Special thanks to Scott Owen for his four years of service as a Board member. He was instrumental in the Big Dig Lake cleanout, has spear headed the Lake Madrone Firebreak effort, and is working on the Panorama water tank replacement, just to name a few of his many accomplishment during his four year term. Thank you Scott for a job well done on the LMWD Board.

Channel Cleanout: Both the Galen Creek and Berry Creek channels were excavated this fall. The Kiddie Beach was also graded so the rise in the center was leveled out. Sand piles have been left on Kiddie Beach and Ski Beach for winter play areas and will be spread out over each beach in the spring.

Tree Removal: Several large leaning pines have been removed from the south side of Lakeside Way in order to prevent them from falling and taking the asphalt and part of the roadway with them.

Panorama Water Tank Replacement: The Board has decided to proceed with replacement of the 15,000 gallon water tank with a steel one. Bids were received and a company selected to proceed as weather permits. The previous redwood tank was damaged last winter by a falling tree. Repair costs were extensive and could not be guaranteed so replacement is the chosen course.

Outlet Pipe Evaluation at the dam: It is time to evaluate the outlet pipe under the dam. A company has been hired to send a robotic camera into the pipe from the downstream direction so that we may evaluate the condition of the pipe. Periodic assessment of the outlet pipe is required by the State Board of Dam Safety.

Green Bridge Repair over Berry Creek: The LMWD Board is in the process of evaluating necessary repairs to the wooden support beams and running boards on the green bridge near Kiddie Beach. Repairs will take place as soon as weather permits. Please note that the bridge may be closed during repairs.

OTHER BITS

Bear Club: Harris Garbage Service workers transfer your bags full of garbage BY HAND from the bin to their hauling truck so please, please, please bag your garbage in plastic bags and tie them closed in a secure manner. Open paper bags tip over in the bin, get wet and soggy and tear open spilling the contents into the bottom of the bin: The Harris employees will really appreciate your efforts.

Vandalism: Two golf carts were taken by vandals in October. One had significant damage due to an attempt at “hotwiring” the cart. The second one was used for joyriding and the young teen was caught. The Sherriff was involved in making the report and visiting the child and parent at their home. Please remember to chain and lock items that may be taken. This suggestion includes BBQ’s and their attached propane tanks and water craft.

Burning: Check with Air Quality before burning green waste: Ph. (530) 332-9407. Burning is permitted until sunset.

Portable Toilets: The Ben Toilets at Kiddie Beach and Ski Beach have been removed for the winter season.

Landscape Committee Fund-raiser: Next summer there will be a raffle of one of Danny Oxford’s unique and very detailed bird houses. The committee would like to purchase one or two large picnic tables for the Ski Beach area. There are currently many smaller tables but the group noticed a need to accommodate some of our larger families. Details as to ticket price will be available in the spring newsletter.

Next LMWD Board Meeting: Saturday, November 19th at Jim and Sue Smith’s cabin on Lakeside Way.
