Lab Safety Project

Directions: Choose 1 of the 5 projects. Read the requirements and directions of each project carefully. After a choice has been made, you will receive a rubric for your project.

Project #1: Lab Safety Cartoon

Ø  This is an individual project.

Ø  Create a cartoon which depicts any lab safety rule.

Ø  Your cartoon must clearly explain what is happening and either how to prevent an accident or what to do if there is an accident

Ø  You may use this website: http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/ to create your cartoon. The drawback of this website is that you cannot choose scenes or props. You may also chose to draw your cartoon the old fashion way by hand.

Ø  Since it is a cartoon, include some humor.

Project #3: Lab Safety Skit

Ø  You may work in a group up to 4 people to act out any lab safety rule.

Ø  Your skit must clearly explain what is happening and how to prevent an accident. You may use different characters and scenarios to describe what is happening.

Ø  You will need to use props in the skit. However, remember SAFETY is the issue.

Ø  The skit will be performed in the class. If you do not want to act it out during class, you may videotape it and it will be shown to the class.

Project #4: Lab Safety Brochure

Ø  This is an individual project.

Ø  Fold a blank piece of computer paper into thirds to make the brochure.

Ø  You may use a brochure template from Microsoft Publisher or any other program as long as it is a tri-fold brochure.

Ø  Your brochure must clearly explain a lab safety rule and how to prevent an accident.

Ø  The brochure will need clip art, sketches, or pictures that will help aid in your explanation.

Ø  It will be graded on neatness and if hand-drawn sketches are used, colorful.

Project #5: Lab Safety Poster

Ø  This is an individual project.

Ø  Your safety poster must clearly explain the rule and how to prevent an accident.

Ø  It will be graded on neatness and if hand-drawn sketches are used, colorful.

Ø  The brochure will need clip art, sketches, or pictures that will help aid in your explanation.

Ø  The picture must fill at least one third of the poster board.
