Lab 1: SCAVENGER HUNT, MAT131, report due at the beginning of class, Thursday, 1/31/08.

Part I of this lab must be completed in your small group before you leave the classroom. You may work together, using your books, notes, and calculators—the course syllabus may also be of use. If someone does not know how to proceed, someone in the group should attempt to explain. Ask your instructor only if no one in your group has any ideas. Your instructor’s signature must be obtained before you leave the room in order to get credit for Part I of the hunt. No member of the group will leave until the entire group has completed Part I.

Part II of the hunt requires you to find different places, people, and information on the AACC Arnold campus. You may complete this portion of the hunt alone or in groups.

Be considerate

of the people in the offices you are visiting! Keep your voices low. Try not to overwhelm any location in a large “herd”—if you notice that a location looks busy, wait 15 minutes and try again.

Your lab report will consist of the completed problems, the required information and signatures from Part I (which you will complete before you leave the classroom today) and the completed information and activities for Part II (which you will gather or do today or over the next few days). The problems are to be completed on your notebook paper. The rest of the lab should be completed in the space provided on this handout and as directed. If you complete all the problems correctly and obtain or give all of the required information, you will receive 25 points for Lab 1. Follow all of the directions to receive all of the points!
