La vie quotidienne au lycée Millbrook!

Objective: Present a typical day at your high school to a French foreign student who plans to come to Millbrook next semester but knows nothing about your school and about the schedule here.

Skills: The video must be 100% in French! Absolutely NO ENGLISH!

Demonstrate that you can introduce yourself: name, age, grade level (the French way), say what you like and do not like to do in full sentences.

 Demonstrate that you can present your high school (outside) and say how many students there are, at what time school starts and at what time dismissal is.

Demonstrate that you can say that you have an A day and B day schedule (morning and afternoon) and talk about your classes (time, classroom, name of teacher, and opinion of class).

Demonstrate that you can have a little group conversation about classes and your opinions using the “agreeing/ disagreeing” phrases.

Demonstrate that you can talk about LUNCH. (at what time? How long it is, what food is served)

Demonstrate that you can talk about the school supplies that you need for your classes.

Procedure:

  • You will use a cell phone (or tablet) to create a video of your presentation. You can use Windows Movie Maker; I Movies or any other film generator of your choice. Videos should last at least 6 minutes long but no longer than 10 minutes. The video should have smooth transitions, good quality volume and speech and should be in focus and stable.
  • Givea walkthrough of your school according to a typicalA day/ Bday schedule. You must include a picture of the front entrance for your introduction to describe the school. - Give 2 particular DATES so that the schedule can be appropriate – (Today is… it is an Day; tomorrow is…, it is a B day). Base your presentation on these 2 dates. You need to talk about 4 classes for each day (from different students in the group so that you all have equal talking time).
  • You need to include 3 skits as a group:
  1. To talk about French class (sing a verb song or other song learned in class)- USE the subject pronoun “NOUS” since you all have this class at the same time!
  2. To talk about EPS ( perform drills such as push-ups when you can count to 100)
  3. To exchange opinions about classes using “agreeing/ disagreeing” phrases as a group.

Steps:

  • Groups of 3 students. One student leader to record steps and document all members’ participation and progress, assign meeting times before or after school to complete the project. One student assigned for the recording device needed and with the technical skills required to perform the editing, the soundtrack and the download. One student in the role of time keeper to record time spent on each step of the process and to type the final script to turn in.
  • When using class time for recording, any group member who is NOT with the assigned group and actively engaged in the work (wandering around the hallways or socializing) will receive a zero for this midterm. No exception. You will have limited time. Use every minute wisely.

Upload:

  • 1) Youtube.com

  • Make sure to write the name of each member in your group as well as your CLASS period when uploading your video.

Grading: Product grade for the quality of the video (is it creative and fun to watch? Or is it “barbant”), Do you have a sound track? Are the quality standards adequate? SOUND quality for spoken presentations is VERY IMPORTANT. The video should have smooth transitions, good quality volume and speech and should be in focus and stable.Product grade out of 30 points. Same grade for the whole group. Your video should resemble the video that we watched in class: A typical Day of a French Student. To review video go to the website.

Content grade: are all required skills demonstrated? Are the 3 skits included? How proficient is each participant? Does each participant have equal speaking time?

This grade is differentiated according to the performance of each student in the video.Content grade out of 100. (85 is basic required proficiency based on proficiency rubric).

Final typed script must be submitted after the upload and include the ROLE of each student in the group at the end of the script (so you must keep a record of each action and time spent).

Leader: name, actions, remarks can include non-compliance from some group members.

Technical assistant: name, contributions, time spent on technical edition and uploading. Record dates.

Time recorder: name, records time spent on each step of the creation and of the recording. Can include absences from some group members during different steps and how the time was made up.

This is your MID -TERM grade for Speaking and Writing; the due date will be announced.
