1. GENERAL

1.1DescriptionEssentially Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), sometimes also called

caustic soda solution.

1.3ToxicityThe material is very corrosive and may cause severe burns or serious permanent eye damage. It is very harmful by ingestion, skin contact or by dust inhalation. Typical: TLV 2mg/m3

1.4HazardsThe material is both corrosive and toxic. Contact with the liquid

will cause severe burns to the skin and eyes. Ingestion will

result in severe internal damage. The material releases toxic

fumes when heated or mixed with water.

1.5Special PrecautionsFull protective clothing including goggles, full face shield or full

face respiratory protection if there is a potential of fumes being

present. Ensure safety shower and eye wash facility is in close

proximity of working area.
