GINNY ELLINGTON SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION FAMILY, CAREER AND

COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA

DESCRIPTION:

This scholarship was developed in honor of Mrs. Ginny Ellington, who served as the Kentucky Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Adviser for eleven years. Mrs. Ellington was very dedicated to the organization and was instrumental in implementing FCCLA STAR Events & FCCLA Alumni & Associates for Kentucky. Teacher recruitment for Family & Consumer Sciences was important to her personally and professionally. As a result, the KY FCCLA Executive Council and the KY FCCLA Advisory Board for 2003-2004 approved the Ginny Ellington Scholarship.

The recipient shall pursue a major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education in a Kentucky college or university and exemplify the efforts of Mrs. Ellington in FCCLA. Factors impacting this scholarship are financial need and desire to be a FACS Teacher. This scholarship will be given every five years to a graduating senior at the annual KY FCCLA State Meeting. The recipient will receive $1,100 per year for four years as long as scholarship requirements are met.

In the event that the recipient does not meet the eligibility requirements for succeeding years, the alternate for the year that the scholarship was presented will receive the scholarship for the remaining years if requirements are met. In the event that alternates are not eligible, the scholarship will be awarded the following year.

ELIGIBILITY:

A. Plans to pursue a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education in a Kentucky college or university.

B.Is an active FCCLA member who has made outstanding contributions to FCCLA and a member of the FCCLA Alumni & Associates Association. Applicants must pay senior alumni dues when applying and attach a senior membership form to the application.

C. Has an economic need for the scholarship

D. Has an overall scholastic standing of at least a 2.7 for the four years of high school and maintains a 2.5 for the four years in college

E.Demonstrates desirable qualities of leadership and dependability

F.Has participated in STAR Events

G. Has shown leadership in school and community

HOW TO APPLY:

* Application must be typed/word processed.

  1. Complete Parts I-VI in duplicate. Keep one copy and send one copy to: State FCCLA Adviser, 300 Building 5th Floor, 300 Sower Blvd., Frankfort KY 40601, postmarked on or before February 15.
  1. Ask your guidance counselor to complete Part III.
  1. Submit three letters of recommendation. Ask each of the three persons listed in Part VI to write a letter of recommendation and sign and seal it. These letters should be mailed to the State Adviser along with the application on or before February 15. Letters must contain references to potential of applicant and financial need of student.
  1. Complete application and essay using size 10 font, Times New Roman.

PART I: OBLIGATIONS OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Member receiving scholarship has an obligation to the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Recipients will:

  1. Follow through with plans for attending a college or university in Kentucky with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences. If it is impossible to fulfill this requirement, the State Adviser should be notified by July 1.
  2. Acknowledge receipts of scholarship checks sent by the State Adviser. One half of the scholarship will be sent to the recipients’ home in August and the second half in December.
  3. Inform the State Adviser immediately if it becomes necessary to drop out of college or change the major before completion of the year. Scholarships are to be used only for attendance in a Kentucky college or university for a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
  4. Continue promoting FCCLA as an alumni member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America by paying dues in that organization and promoting FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences careers to others.
  5. Each year a renewal statement is required which includes: statements to continue pursuing a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, community and/or college involvement, letter of recommendation from a professor, and an official copy of your transcript to the state FCCLA Adviser 2025 Capital Plaza Tower, 500 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40601 by July 1.
