KXLY Broadcast Group announces Senior Management Changes.
Elizabeth Murphy Burns, the President of Spokane Television, Inc. and QueenB Radio Inc., has announced senior management changes at the KXLY Broadcast Group effective January 1, 2011.
Steve Herling will be retiring from his role as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the KXLY Broadcast Group after 28 years in that role. Mr. Herling has worked for Morgan Murphy Media for 41 years and will now become the Senior Vice President of Special Projects for Morgan Murphy Media. Mr. Herling will report directly to Burns and will now be working out of the KXLY North Idaho office in Coeur D’Alene at 504 E. Sherman Avenue.
Herling’s accomplishments during his tenure with Morgan Murphy are extensive. He oversaw the acquisition of 5 additional stations that now comprise the seven stations within the KXLY Radio Group. That station group is continuously within the #1 or #2 most-listened to group of stations in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area. He oversaw the creation of KXLY-Washington State Cougar Radio Network in 2001, which brought together 31 radio stations to broadcast WSU Football and Basketball games. During his tenure, KXLY-TV was recognized twice as the overall National Winner of the distinguished Radio, Television News Director Association’s Edward R. Murrow Award. Also, under his direction, KXLY-TV was the first Spokane station to broadcast in high definition and was also the first Spokane station to broadcast local news in high definition.
Herling has served on numerous community and trade organizations during his career: Trustee for the Spokane Symphony, Trustee for the Spokane Chamber of Commerce, Foundation Northwest Director, Momentum Executive Committee, Chairman of the Washington State Association of Broadcasters. He also currently serves as a director for the Idaho State Broadcasters Association.
Also effective January 1, 2011, Burns has announced the appointment of Teddie Gibbon, the current Vice President and Station Manager of KXLY-TV, to the role of Vice President and General Manager with overall direction of the KXLY Television operation. Burns also named Brian Paul (Lubanski), the current Radio Market Manager, to the role of Vice President and General Manager of the KXLY Radio Group. Paul also serves as the General Manager of KAPP-TV (Yakima) and KVEW-TV (Tri-Cities). Both stations are part of Apple Valley Broadcasting which is part of Morgan Murphy Media. “Teddie Gibbon and Brian Paul both are stars in our company and I am delighted to be working with them,” said Burns.
Gibbon has been with KXLY Television for 28 years and has served as a Sales Account Executive, Local Sales Manager, General Sales Manager, Vice President of Broadcast Sales & TV Programming. Since 1999, she has served as the Vice President and Station Manager of KXLY-TV. Prior to coming KXLY, Gibbon worked for seven years in Television Sales for KIRO-TV and KSTW-TV in Seattle, WA.
Paul has been a part of Morgan Murphy Media since 1996 when the company purchased KZZU 92.9 FM and AM 970 The Score. At the time, Paul was the General Manager of both stations. Since then, Paul has served as the KXLY Radio Group Operations Manager and Market Director for KXLY-TV and the KXLY Radio Group. In 2005, Paul was named General Manager of Apple Valley Broadcasting in Yakima and Tri Cities. In 2009, he took on the role of Marketing Manager for the KXLY Radio Group as well.
