Kronos – Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I install Kronos on my computer?

A. You do not install Kronos on your computer. Kronos is accessed using a web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox). You will need to first contact Payroll to have an account created with the proper access. Once your account is created, simply type kronos in the browser address bar and hit enter.

Q. When I try to access Kronos, the web page does not display. What does this mean?

A. This means access to Kronos has been disabled. Occasionally the system will be unavailable due to software maintenance. If there has been no notification from Payroll that the system is currently unavailable, please contact Payroll.

Q. When I type in my employee number and password to log in to Kronos, it says ‘An incorrect user name or password was entered. Please try again.'

A. Retype your employee number and password to make sure you have entered them correctly. If they are correct, then there is a problem with your account; you will need to contact Payroll and request to have your password reset.

Q. I am unable to start Kronos and other people using Kronos are having the same problem. What should I do?
A. Check your email to make sure that the Kronos server was not taken down for maintenance. If not, then there could be a problem with the Kronos server; you should contact Payroll.

Q. I receive a Java error when I log into Kronos, or when I attempt to access different pages within Kronos. How can I stop this Java error?89

A. Kronos is only compatible with Java 5.0 Update 11, which is an old version. You will need to uninstall any newer versions of Java.

Windows XP Users

Go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Remove all versions of Java that are greater than 5.0 Update 11. If you do not see Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11 you will need to install it. After removing all versions of Java, start Kronos and log in. Kronos will automatically start and install the correct version of Java. Select the typical install.

Once the correct version of Java is installed, you should disable the automatic updates. You can do this by going to Control Panel and double-clicking the Java icon (If you do not see the Java icon, select “Switch to Classic View” from the menu on the left). This will open the Java Control Panel. Select the Update tab. Uncheck the “Check for Updates Automatically” check box. You will get a warning; click the “Never Check” button, Apply, and OK.

Windows 7 Users

Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features. Remove all versions of Java that are greater than 5.0 Update 11. If you do not see Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11 you will need to install it. After removing all versions of Java, start Kronos and log in. Kronos will automatically start and install the correct version of Java. Select the typical install.

Q. I have been using Kronos, and now I cannot log in. What should I do?

A. Microsoft has released a security patch that may interfere with Kronos. There are two options to work around this issue. One is to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. The second option is go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and search for MS Security patch KB974455. Remove this patch.

Q. My employee is unable to clock in or transfer by phone. What is wrong?

A. The typical reason this happens is the employee’s set up in Banner is not correct. Please contact Payroll.
