Kosovo preparing celebrations for end of supervision(Koha Ditore)

Koha Ditore reports that the end of supervised independence will be confirmed in exactly one month by the International Steering Group during a meeting in Pristina. Based on a preliminary agenda marking this event, the Group will hold a meeting on 10 September at 13:00 hrs. It is expected that the meeting will last one hour.

Afterwards, the Kosovo Assembly will call a formal session that will be addressed by former UN status envoy Martti Ahtisaari, his US deputy Frank Wisner, and EU’s Wolfgang Ischinger.

An international conference will be held in Pristinathe next day with at least eight foreign ministers of different countries attending.According to one source: “ISG will conclude that Kosovo has fulfilled conditions of Comprehensive Proposal for the solution of the status [and] it will declare the mandate of International Civilian Office as completed.”

KIPRED: end of supervision leaves Kosovo divided (dailies)

Kosovo has not implemented the Ahtisaari Package and, four years after its declaration of independence, it does not have full international legitimacy orinternal sovereignty, and is divided. Furthermore, as the newest state in Europe, the theft of votes has fundamentally endangered democracy. All these findings hasled the Kosovar Institute, which focuses onpolicy development (KIPRED) to conclude that the decision for the end of supervised independence was hasty and contradictory.

“Kosovo remains divided internally and with limited legitimacy in international arena. Exempt this, overall there is a lack in the implementation of approved legislation. Kosovo has problems as far as it concerns the basic functionality of democracy. The northern part remains de facto divided, a situation which endangers to undermine all the successes in the south of the country. The security of the state and the fight against corruption and organized crime will continue to be entrusted to the bodies, mandates of which derive from UNSC Resolution 1244, exactly to KFOR and EULEX,” KIPRED analysed.

Opposition parties don’t want Unity Team (Express)

Expressreports that opposition parties in Kosovo are rejecting the idea to create a Unity Team for the purpose of political talks with Serbia, which are expected to begin in October. Both LDK and AAK say that the Parliament of Kosovo must come to a consensus regarding the process of the talks.

On the other hand, Vetëvendosje delivered their conditions to enter into dialogue with Serbia. Among them include changing the Serbian Constitution, specifically where it states that Kosovo is part of Serbia, and apologize to Kosovo for crimes against Albanians during the 19th and 20th centuries. The Vetëvendosje movement demanded that their requests be fulfilled for the purpose of the talks, otherwise they will protest.

KLA war veterans announce “hot autumn” (Zëri)

Former members of the KLA demand that the Government of Kosovo seriously consider their demands on laws about KLA war veterans, otherwise they will stage protests in October. The head of the Prime Minister’s Office for KLA War Veterans, Faik Fazliu, said however that there will be no need to protest because this year the Government will have the two draft laws on war veterans ready.

Pantic: Barricade, symbol of resistance against violence (Koha Ditore)

Serb politician from northern Kosovo, Krstimir Pantic, rejected the statement by KFOR Commander, Erhard Drews, regarding the barricade in Mitrovica, but he admitted that the barricade is a symbol of Serb resistance towards the violence in Pristina. Pantic toldBeta that the barricade in the main bridge over the Iber River, which divides Mitrovica in two parts, wascreated as a response to the violent incidents in Pristina and the violence directed towards Kosovo Serbs for 13 years.

EU: Mitrovica University in Tempus, important for integration (dailies)

The EU office in Kosovo wishes to clarify claims published about universities and institutions of higher education in Kosovo supported by the Tempus program: “Tempus program is a program of cooperation designed to support the reform and modernization of the higher education in partnership countries, one of which is also Kosovo. Tempus projects offer possibility to empower networks of higher education within EU and to create connections with a range of neighboring countries, which is increasingly important from the geopolitical, social, cultural and economic perspective.”
