Scholarship Guidelines & Application

For the 2013/14 School year, the Knights of Columbus will be offering three scholarships, A, B, and C. Scholarship A is a One Thousand Dollars one time award. Scholarship B and C arefive hundred scholarships one time award. All scholarships are for any 8th grade student graduating from St. Columbkille or any 8th grade students in Religious Education at St Columbkille. All scholarships have the same guidelines with the exception of C, which does not include financial need.

Requirements:

  1. 2.5 GPA minimum, based on your School records.
  2. Show financial need (scholarships A and B only). Principal Jim Makey will verify this. For those students not attending St. Columbkille full time, financial need must be discussed with Principal Jim Makey in the St Columbkille office.
  1. Letter of Recommendation from someone in the community other a teacher or family member (written in the thirdperson to keep identity of applicant unknown, i.e. using Student in place of students name).
  1. Be involved in at least two organized extra-curricular activities.
  1. Have completed at least 30 community service hours. Explain what service was and show verification that they were completed. (Signed by someone other than a parent or guardian).
  1. Essay “Why you feel a Catholic education is important”, again, writing so you remain anonymous.

Completing the Application

-Indicate which scholarship you would like to be considered for.

-Applicants complete personal data information on page 2 and items 4-6 under the student section on page 3. Application should then be turn in to the school office.

-St Columbkille will verify 1-3 on page 3. For students not attending St. Columbkille full time, this information must be provided to the St. Columbkille school office.

All applications should be turned in to Mrs. Townsend in the St. Columbkille School Library no later than 3:00pm, April 18, 2013. GPA will be verified and financial need determined by St. Columbkille administrators (Scholarships A and B only). Financial need will be kept confidential, not being disclosed to the selection committee. The application will then be forwarded to the selection committee. In order to keep the applicants social security number will be used to track applications. The selected applicants will be notified by mail.
