Kingfisher Class Homework Letter

Friday 14th October

Well done to the children who completed their homework last week. 17 out of 25 children did their homework. This week we have also welcomed Abbie and Tom into Kingfishers. The children have been really kind and have been really good friends to both of our new arrivals.

This week…

In Literacy, we have been learning about our Tiny Tickable Targets and how to achieve them. We have also been learning about instructions. We have learnt that instructions tell you how to do something and are short, snappy and bossy!

In Letters and Sounds we have been learning that some sounds have two letters but only one sound. This week we have been reading and writing words and sentences with the sounds igh as is high and ur as in nurse, ar as in car and or as in for. Perhaps you might spot some of these sounds in your reading books this weekend.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to read, write and count to 20. We have also been learning the pairs of numbers which make 10.

Class targets

Our targets this term are:

Speaking and listening: If asked, I can change a one word answer into a sentence, sometimes with help.

Reading: When reading aloud, I pause at full stops and raise my voice at question marks.

Writing: I can write with finger spaces between words and on the line.

Maths: I can read and write numbers to 10 and then 20 and place them on a number track. I can say the number one more or less than a number to 10 then 20.

We will be working on these each week in our lessons. These can also be supported at home during reading and homework.

Homework

·  This week we have been learning the pairs of numbers which make 10. I have attached a worksheet for you to complete to make 5 or 10. Write your answers on the sheet and if you can stick it in or if not I will stick it in next week.

·  If you complete the homework quickly, you can practice learning these number facts off by heart (for example a grown up says a number and the child has to say the number they need to make 10 (so the adult would say 7 and the child would say 3).

Extra challenges

·  We have been learning to give instructions; can you give a grown up some instructions? Remember to make them short, snappy and bossy! (Put on your coat, Slowly walk up the stairs, Write your name)

·  Don’t forget you also have your reading books and key words and you can use our school website to play some games. http://st-peters.wikispaces.com/

Bike and Scooter Day

To celebrate the end of our topic “Wacky Races” we are going to have a Bike and Scooter Day on Wednesday 19th October. The children will be able to bring in their bike or scooter to school and will be able to “decorate” it (no paint just adding ribbons etc!). On this day we will also be visited by Dr Bike who will service the children’s bikes (the school is paying for this). If your child has a bike and you would like Dr Bike to check it over please sign up on the sheet in our cloak room.

Boxes Please!

If you have any small cereal bar boxes or boxes of a similar size we would really appreciate them in school on Monday or Tuesday as we are hoping to make vehicles from them!

Thank you!

Star of the week
This week’s Stars are Tom Warren-Rees and Abbie Romero!
They have both had super first weeks in our class and have both been working really hard!
Well done and Welcome to our school!
