Details on October 2-3 Oconee River Trip

GWS will have an easy two day trip on the Oconee River October 2-3. We will meet at the Balls Ferry landing off Highway 57 between Toomsboro and Wrightsville and be unloaded and ready to run the shuttle by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October 3. The landing is on a dirt road north of Highway 57 just before the bridge. The fall line freeway construction has resulted in a clear cut on the left side of Highway 57 just before the bridge, and the landing road runs through the clear cut.

We will Shuttle the cars to a shopping center near the East Dublin landing. The trip is only 20 miles, so we’ll just float most of the way. Please come prepared to swim. There is an old Indian Fish Trap to float down in your life vest at each lunch stop. As usual we’ll camp on a sand bar. We could be off the river as early as 3:00 p.m. depending on how early we leave the sandbar. This section of the Oconee is narrow and has in the past been passable even in drought conditions. Call with any questions.

If you’re coming from far off, you are welcome to camp at my house near Milledgeville the night of October 1.
