I. General Information:

II. Course Description:
The major emphasis of this course is to basic listening, reading, writing and comprehension skills. French 1 is considered beginning level French or first year French. This course is to impart necessary basic skills for French comprehension. The core emphasis of French 1 is primarily to provide first year French learners the ability to comprehend and produce formularized language skills such as basic words, sentences and paragraphs using daily life setting. At the end of French 1, students will meet the requirements the California Content Standards for Beginning level French. Students will learn through a variety of educational strategies, including reading, writing, listening, various group activities, demonstrations, audio/visuals, and class projects.
III. Grading Procedures and Regulations:
Marking policy: The student’s course grade will be based on the following assessment activities (approximately):
Classwork 15%
Homework 10%
Projects/writing 15%
Reading comprehension 10%
Discussion and conversation (Communication) 15%
Exam and Quizzes 20% Participation/Online activities 15%
Grading scale: A: 90-100%; B: 80-89%; C: 70-79%; D: 60-69%; F: below 60%.
Online grades:
You can access your grades online at SCHOOLOGY and various assignments in Class. Log in information will be given to students the first week of school. Parents are strongly encouraged to obtain the user name and password from their child in order to monitor their grades daily.
Homework: No unexcused late work will be accepted! Students returning from an absence will have up to TWO DAYS to turn in any outstanding work without penalty. Upon returning to school, students are responsible for determining what work they may have missed as a result of their absence. I will not take class time to tell you which assignment you have missed; see me during nutrition or after school. Expect to make up tests and quizzes outside of class time. Students are responsible for contacting me to arrange make-ups. No make up will be allowed for truancies!
Cheating: Any student found cheating in this class will receive a zero grade and, if necessary, disciplinary action. Copying or sharing information on homework, classwork, or tests is considered cheating. During tests, the person providing the information (knowingly or not) as well as the cheater will receive a zero grade.
IV. Assessment Activities:
Tests: A test or quiz will be given weekly on the subject covered. In addition, there will be a final exam/project.
Classwork: All assignments should include page number and exercise number, completed warm up and classwork in order to get full credit. All classwork must be shown daily for credit. Classwork shown a day late receive half credit.
Homework: Homework is assigned weekly or as needed based on concepts that needs to be reviewed.
V. Tutoring:
Tutoring is available once a week after school from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. (with appointment). Students having trouble with class materials are particularly urged to attend tutoring.
VI. Citizenship and Discipline:
The student’s citizenship grade will be determined by classroom behavior. The following behaviors will adversely impact a student’s citizenship grade:
o Interfering with the education of others;
o Excessive absences and tardiness;
o Requiring repeated reminders to follow class rules.
VII. General Classroom Rules
1. Arrive on time ready to work.
2. Do all assignments!
3. No eating, chewing gum or drinking is allowed in the classroom.
4. Leave all disturbing items home. Cell phones must be turned off and put away during class time.
5. Adhere to the dress code of Fremont High School.
6. Remain seated at the end of class until the teacher excuses you.
7. You are not allowed to walk around without permission
7. Cheating will not be tolerated!
8. Respect and be polite to other people:
- Never interrupt anyone at anytime;
- Never curse, use profanity, or tease other students;
- Always recognize others for a job well done.
Any behavior that the teacher deems unacceptable will result in a private discussion with the student; then, if necessary, a parent or guardian will be notified. If the behavior continues, disciplinary action will follow in accordance with the school's discipline policy.
Serious offenses will be referred to the Dean.

Also, during the school year, students will be engaged in various types of interesting hands-on activities. The student’s participation and cooperation is highly recommended. Furthermore, Pictures will be taken or activities will be recorded for use in the classroom as well as sharing within the school. Parents’ approval is required before students’ pictures can be taken.
