Kindergarten Newsletter

***Language Arts News***

Please take a look at the IStation sign-in page that is attached to this newsletter. Students can work on IStation games during the holiday break.

We will continue to review the following sight words during our language arts groups. Please review the words with your child until they can give a quick response when asked.

Sight Words: I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, my, like, he, for, me, with, red, blue, white, orange, yellow, purple

During the next few months we will be focusing on having the children use their knowledge of letter sounds to sound out words. We will also have the children use their sounds to help produce a written response to stories and activities. This will be an exciting time for the kindergarten children as they begin to realize that they can write words and sentences.

Continue to have your child read the small take home books to help build your child’s confidence in his/her reading ability.

New sight words introduced – she, see, look, black, green, brown

***Math News***

Kindergarten students are becoming familiar with numbers to 30. We’ll continue to work on number identification, recognizing smaller and larger numbers, and ordering numbers. Students are also learning to add with manipulatives. We will learn to solve horizontal and vertical addition problems with an emphasis on problem solving. Students will also begin to practice measuring length & weight and tell time to the hour. Students should be able to count to 100 by May! We add to our number line everyday and are counting how many days we’ve been in kindergarten. There will be special activities on the 100th day of school. J
