The goal of the Science Fair is to give all students the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of scientific exploration.

What do you need to do?

  1. Decide on a science experiment (TBS is a Green Ribbon school; you could try a green science project)
  2. Do your experiment and observe what happens.
  3. Write up your experiment and display it on a tri-fold poster board (See next page for more information.)
  4. If you prefer, you may invent something or research something scientific that interests you (Think Green, maybe alternative energy or nature conservation). Simply write about your invention or research and display on a tri-fold poster board.
  5. Get ready to demonstrate your experiment to friends and family at the Science Fair.
  6. No flames may be used for experiments.

*Students may work and present with a sibling or friend who also attends TBS!

A Few Helpful Notes For Parents…

The Science Fair is a great opportunity for you and your child to have fun together. Your child will need guidance in choosing a project. It is important that the project is exciting for the children, but not too complex for them to understand as they will be expected to demonstrate it to others. There are many books available with project ideas suitable for all ages and abilities. Check out the library or TBS Enrichment website for helpful informationand links to useful websites. Please keep safety in mind when choosing a project.Avoid things that can harm the children: no harmful chemicals, flames, explosions etc. In short - keep it simple, keep it safe, and keep it fun!

How to present the project.

Fold a poster board into three sections as shown below.

The poster board can stand on its own and the project can sit in front of it. The three panels should be used to display the information. The information should be organized under the following headings:

1.Title

2.Introduction - to explain what you are doing.

3.Materials and methods - what you used and what you did.

4.Results – explain what happened.

5.Discussion – explain why it happened and what you learned.

Writing should be developmentally appropriate. Photos with captions are a great way for students to explain their process. Remember, students will be telling about their projects too!
