4. Triage process
JS reported that the Police, Health and Children Services are now working together on a daily basis. The West is running trial at present, with Barrow and SouthLakes to follow.
JS will give feedback on the triage process at the next meeting.

5. Update from the Children’s Trust Board
The minutes from the Children’s Trust Board meeting held on the 28th November 2011 were circulated for information.
Headlines:
Stay Safe Initiative – presentation given to Board and highlighted the stay safe work taking place in Barrow.
LSCB chair to be appointed
Cumbria Impact and Evaluation Group (CIEG) to be set up to work on gathering data from partners re indicators for approval at CTB meeting in February 2012.
6. Feedback from Task and Finish Groups
a. Young Runaways
A report from Chief Inspector Gordon Rutherfordwas presented by GB. Children’s Services and the ResidentialSchools are developing a missing person’s protocol. Reported reduction of numbers of repeat runaways. The police, residential schools and Children’s Services to review the reporting method.
Action – to continue to monitor for two months before removing from Agenda.
b. Risk Taking Behaviour
GB circulated minutes from Risk Taking Behaviour Task and Finish Group (09.01.2012) electronically 16.01.2012. Meeting next week to look at points raised on the agenda. Within this group a separate Domestic Violence group may form. Action – Domestic Violence Task and Finish group to be set up and added as an agenda item
Reduction in Teenage Pregnancy discussed looking at peer support. Task and Finish Group to bring proposal to next meeting.Action – Reduction of Teenage Pregnancy to be an agenda item.
Domestic Violence pilot – Police. JS gave an account on pilot scheme run in Barrow - this is where schools are notified of any incidents of domestic violence within the home, where a child/young person may have been present. This is now being rolled out in the area of greatest need (West) within Cumbria.
c. Child Poverty
GB circulated minutes from the Child Poverty Task and Finish Group (14.11.2011) electronically 05.01.2012. SH provided information on project run by Howgill Children Centre where targeted families had been worked with. Discussion on low uptake of free school meals and the rationale.Proposal to work county wide to increase uptake of free school meal entitlement.
Action – Report back at next meeting on the success of the Free School Meal Initiative.Action – DH to look at cost of ‘thumb recognition’ system used at FurnessAcademy.
d. Stay safe
JS confirmed that the ‘Stay Safe’ initiative was working well in the south of the county. / GR

7. Relationship with other District Partnerships
To help people work together it was suggested that a list be put together of relevant partnerships. GB to put together a template and send out. This will allow for identifying any gaps within provision for children and families.Action – GB to circulate template
LC gave report on audit findings carried out in November by SERG. Six cases examined. Good practice identified and it has been proposed that a review of the CAF process would be looked at by assignment group.
Shu asked for definitions used by the DDG in terms of ‘pilot’, ’project’, ‘Task and Finish Group’ etc. Action – GB to provide. / GB

  • KH provided information on the Contact a Family organisation and their role in providing SEND training
  • The group felt the Issues need up dating. GB to send out the blank ‘Issues and best Practice’ form. DDG also needs to consider the needs of the under 5’s as the previous focus has been on older age range.
